Options have been procured on the
tcrvlcea of the country's most out
standing stunt pilots for the Ore
gon aerial tour to start hero on July
$. it was Announced today by Max
Pelrca, head of the Oregon Aviation
Development Committee, Inc., which
has charge of the air circus.
Tho options, Mr. Pelrce sold, wore
btalned In Los Angeles by Allan D.
Greenwood, Inspector of the Oregon
state board of aeronautics which is
co-operating with the ten cities stag
leg the show.
The pilots signing the options In
tlude Tex Rankin, former chairman
f the Oregon aeronautic board,
Frank Clark, who was here last year
to perform stunts for a motion pic
ture. Paul Mnntz, who flew recently
to Honolulu with Amelia Earhart,
Bernadlne King, women's champion
upside-down filer, Al Lary, Oeorge
Cook, "Iron-Hat" Johnson and several
others.
To Make Choice
The Oregon Aviation Development
Committee will meet In Bend May 23
to choose the stunt pilots for the
aerial tour, Mr. Pelrca said.
Medford chapter of the National
Aeronautic association, local sponsor,
will meet at 7:30 next Wednesday
night In the Jackson county Chamber
of Com mere to make detailed ar
rangements for the show here, It was
stated by Mr. Pelrce, chspter presi
dent. "It Is our aim to stage the greatest
and most dazzling air show Medford
has ever seen," Mr, Pelrce said.
Big fillip to Land
Participants In the state air carni
val are to gather here on July 1 and
put on the show at the municipal
air port the following day.
An added attraction of the show
will bo the arrival of two of the huge
Douglas planes now operating on the
United Air Lines coast service. One
plane will be northbound, the other
southbound on regular passenger
mall schedules and a 15-mlnute stop
will be made at the airport to give
the public here Its first close-up
glimpse of the giant airliners, Mr.
Pelrce pointed out.

make communities meet a larger part
ol the cost of materials used on relief
projects.
Some more prosperous communities
now are paying for all supplies used
on their projects, and the proportion
of non-labor costs met by other com
munities Is being adjusted to their
ability to pay.
The question of how the govern
ment should spend for relief In the
year beginning July 1 Is now before
congress.
Rep. Woodrum (D-Va.), an econ
omy advocate, has proposed that
9 1 ,000,000.000 be allotted, but the
house appropriations committee voted
yesterday to seek an additional $M0.
000,000. President Roosevelt estimat
ed the larger amount would be
needed.
Harry L. Hopkins, works progress
administrator, told a subcommittee
that the administration's program for
dropping 835,000 persons from WPA
tolls would be successful only If pri
vate Industry could hire those dis
missed from government projects.
He said the WPA lay-offs would
occur, however, only "If business con
ditions Improve sufficiently." An
average of 1,730,000 persons could be

federal financial authority declared
today official fears of Inflation have
subsided at least for the time being.
The official, who declined to be
quoted by name, cited three major
reasons for his belief that warnings
against the danger of a too rapid
spiral of prices had taken effect:
1. Prices of many articles which
were climbing rapidly two months
ago have leveled off recently. The
labor department's Index of whole
sale commodity prices dropped a lit
tle each week In April, receding from
88.3 to 87.9.
2. Congressmen are showing In
tense Interest In the problems ot
balancing the budget. Strong "econ
omy blocks" In both houses are seek
ing to hold down expenditures for
the coming year. ,
3. Government officials have shown
renewed Interest in the problem of
curbing monopolies In business. The
Justico department has challenged
the Aluminum Company of America
under the anti-trust laws and At
torney General Cummlngs has rec
ommended revision of these statutes.

LONDON. May 14. (AP) The
British admiralty officially announc
ed today eight men were killed aboard
the destroyer Hunter yesterday when
It was rocked by an explosion just
off the government-held city of Al
merla on the southern Spanish coast.
Despite the Insistence of Spanish
government sources at Valencia and
Aimer la that the blast was caused
by an attack from "a German sub
marine." a. floating mine laid during
the months old Spanish civil war
was understood to have been defin
itely established as the cause of the
disaster.
The official announcement came as
the admiralty launched an Investiga
tlon at Aimer J a to determine who
laid the mine and fix responsibility
for what observers believed would be
a stern protest.
Twenty other members of the crew
of the warship were Injured, some
of them seriously, by tho shattering
explosion which ripped open the
Hunter's bows in mid-afternoon.
Dispatches from Gibraltar said the
destroyer, .one of Britain's newest
men-of-war. was on duty as a unit

eral trade moved forward toward Its
spring peak during the past week as
demand for all types of merchandise
