One of the greatest mast move
menu of youth In tha history of the
nation will be launched this June,
when all types of transportation car
riers, bearing 25,000 or more Scouts,
will converge on Washington, D. C.
for the country's first National Jam
boree, June 30 to July 8.
What Inspires this greet pllgrlm
sge? What values sttract thla vast
throng of eager-eyed youths?
Many Jamboree values are self-evident:
1. Trips to and from the Jamboree
camp will be packed with educational
travel values. The 10 days spent In
the nstlon's capital will be weli worth
the trip alone. Individual viewpoints
will be widened and history and ge
ography become living subjects.
2. Traveling under superior scout
leaders, the boys will benefit from
numerous opportunities provided for
character building, leadership snd
citizenship training Scouting'a three
cardinal alms.
3. Lasting friendships will ripe
under the warm comradry of the
Jamboree contingent. Association
With Scouts from oth.r r..r. an1
foreign countries will break down lo
ci prejudices ana racial hatreds.
4. There'a romance In everv mil
of the trip and a camping experience
oi nign aaventure.
6. Each boy who makes the trip
should receive stimulation to advance
In Scouting and to become trained
eventually to serve as a leader In the
movement.
All these values are offered at
prices which seem ridicuinn.it, i
for the potential benefits. ThrougS

Every factor of safety will be pro
vided for the contingent. National,
regional and local Scout executives,
numerous adult .'
railroad officials will accompany and
hui wim .acn group. Two years
ago the Crater Lake Area Council
took 3o boys to New York and back
without one single mishap marring
the trip.
In extending a nennn.i tnvH.H.-
