Caddies of the local country club,
who staged a alt-down strike for
higher pay, have been granted their
demands.
The club-toters now get 40 cents
for nine holes and 76 cents for 18 as
compared to the former scale of 30
and 60 cents. It was learned today.

Stanley Knight, who with his
father and brother purchased the
W. G. Record place last fall, re
turned, to California last week for
the summer. He has been batching
on the place through the winter but
has now leased It to Prank J. Miller
and son for this summer. Mr. Miller
haa also leased the Hartley place.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Varner will run
Mrs. Emma Bryan'i place.
Mr. Romlne was called to Missouri
by the serious Illness of his mother.
He expects to be gone about two
months.
Roy Lofland was seriously hurt one
day recently when a mare with a
young colt ; kicked htm. He was
fondling the colt when suddenly the
mother wheeled, kicking him In the
back and breakln two ribs loose from
the spine.
Williams Ladles' elub had a booth
at the fair grounds at Grant Pasa
at the field meet May 8 where they
sold welners and buns, the proceeds
to go to partly defray expenses of

held at Ashland last Friday night,
and again brought back the shield
for having the largest percentage of

small children died and four men
were Injured In what Investigators
described today aa a pathetic tragedy
of fire and attempted rescue in Oak
land, The young victims, aons of a can
nery worker, were David Doby, 8;
Gerald Doby, 8; and Paul Doby, 3.
They died of burns and suffoca
tion, firemen reported, in their bed
room. The father, Arnold Doby, was
at work and the mother was on her
wsy to a picture show. Two firs
men snd two ambulance men were
Injured when the ambulance In which
they were taking the children to a
hospital, collided with an automobile
and overturned.

W. O. Powell aald today. Matheny,
Powell aald, settled near Wheatland
In 1843 and year later hewed out
the wood for the first ferry boat In
the vicinity.
