At Last Meet
In observance of National Music
week, special musical numbers were
presented at last week's meeting of
the Wednesday Study club by Mrs.
Norman Oall.
Mrs. GeJl opened the program with
two vocal solos, 'Take Joy Home," by
Karolyn Wells Bassett, and The
Wind's In the South," by John Prln-
die Scott. She was accompanied by
Mrs. Carleton Janes.
Mrs. J. H. Cochran presented the
book review of the afternoon, "Para
dise by Esther Forbes, an historical
romance of an early Massachusetts
bay colony. Mrs. Cochran stated the
book tells of the life and hardships
of the early colonists, the theme of
the story following the slow rising of
the Indians' fury against the inva
sion of the white men until it re
sulted In King Philip's war. "It is
a book of realism rather than ro
mance, Mrs. Cochran pointed out.

St. Mark's, has been acquainted with
Mrs. Phillips for a number of years
and highly recommends her talks.
She has made an Intensive study of
English and other cathedrals, wss a

of Norway and Sweden.

Popples which will be worn her
In memory of the world war dead on
Poppy day and on Memorial day have
been received by Medford unit of
the American Legion auxiliary from
Roseburg veterans' hoapltal, where
they have been made by disabled war
veterans. Ths flowers are crepe pa
per replicas of the famous popples of
France and Flanders, that bloomed so
profusely amid war's desolation.
Each flower has been made with
pains and care by soma disabled
world war veteran.
The label of the auxiliary of Ore
gon that the poppy Is made by a pa
tient of a U. S. veterans' hoapltal In
Oregon la a guarantee that every
poppy sold by auxiliary woman wss
made by a disabled veteran under
the supervision of the Amsrlcsn Le
gion auxiliary, and that the veteran
was paid for making the poppy. It
I a further guarantee that every
penny earned from the poppy sale
will be expended on auxiliary and
Legion hoapltal and child welfare
work.
At the 1938 department conven
tion our department hospital and
welfare ohalrmen presented the fol
