Dr. Green Back Dr. R. E. Green
returned yesterday from southern
California and has resumed practice
at his office in the Medford Center
building. He was away about two
months and while in Los Angeles did
special work at the County General
hospital. With Mrs. Green he also
spent some time at vacation centers.
Take Residence Mr. and Mrs. Ray
O. Lessard and family have taken up
residence at 18 'Glen Oak Court. Mr.
Lessard came here recently from Port
land to become district manager of
the Metropolitan Life Insurance com
pany, succeeding Glen Birk, who was
promoted to the San Francisco of
fice. Mr, Lessard was advanced by
the company from an assistant man
agership in Portland.

GRAND JURY TO HEAR
Kelson Cannon, 33. was ordered
held to await action of the grand
Jury yesterday when his attorney.
A C. Hough of Grants Pass waived a
preliminary hearing In justice court.
Bonds were fixed at 12500.
A coroner's Inquest returned find
ings holding Cannon "guilty of a
crime" as the result of the death of
Francis Lee Heryford, 16, high school
student, from Injuries sustained
when the auto driven by Cannon
struck a bicycle ridden by Heryford
on North Riverside avenue on the
night of April 30.
Cannon was bound over to the
grand Jury on the coroner's Jury
findings without a specific charge
being filed.

BILBAO REFUGEES
BORDEAUX, France. May 7. (AP)
Two shiploads of Spanish refugees
from tottering Bilbao, exactly 3.806,
reached safety In France today with
an escort of British men-of-war.
Women with babies In their arms,
old men unable to fight and children
chattering with excitement came to,
the French ports of La Rochelle and
PaulUac aboard two Spanish ships,
away from the screaming shells and
rattling machine, guns of the Insur
gent army pressing on the capital of
their Basque homeland.
Behind them they left almost all
they possessed, but they had the
French government's promise of
refuge In homes, hospitals and other
havens In France.
The steamship Habana, Jammed
with more than 2,483 refugees, anch
ored at La Rochelle, north of Bor
deaux, and the Izarra, once a pleasure
yacht, brought 153 children and 170
adults most of them women to
Pauillac, down the Glronde river
Irom Bordeaux.

AFTER CAR ACCIDENT
Mrs. Alice Walters of 31 Chestnut
street waa fined $5 in city court this
morning for operating a car without
a driver's license.
Mrs. Walters, according to city
police, smashed into a machine" oper
ated by L. E. Ross of 409 Hill street
at the intersection of Columbus and
Second streets yesterday afternoon.
Russ sustained a slight cut on the
head and minor . bruises and . Mrs.
Walters suffered a bruised leg, police
said. . .
Police stated that Ross was driving
nls car west on West Second street,
and as he crossed Columbus, the
machine operated by Mrs. Walters,
travelling south on North Columbus,
crashed into It broadside.
The Ross machine was badly dam
aged, city police stated.

Twelfth streets as he attempted to

Members of President Roosevelt's
three-man emergency mediation
board, their hearings In the South
ern Pacific labor controversy virtual
ly ended, began working on a recom
mendation today to submit to PresU
dent Roosevelt by May 14.
The board seeks to avert a strike
of 8,500 members of the Brotherhood
of Railroad Trainmen, and the Broth
