for a permit at the city building In

Wins Safety Rating Bonanza CCC
camp has been awarded the Medford
district safety banner for another
quarter, it was announced today by
MeJ. George R. Owens, district com
mander. The camp, has been first
In safety ratings for some time, not
a single accident having been chalked
up against it in the past six months.
Capt. Wlnthrop W. Williams Is camp
commander and Clyde S. Stahl Is
acting superintendent. Camps steam
boat, Brlce Creek, Clear Lake, Lava
Beds. Agness and McKlnley reported
only one accident each In the first
1937 quarter.

Bumper Broken P. B. Balrd of 333
Haven street reported today Jhat
when he pulled away from the curb
on West Sixth street Tuesday after
noon a car driven by W. T. Wheeler
of 905 North Riverside avenue struck
his machine, breaking his rear
bumper.
Lake Road Cleared Clearing of
Pish lake road to the upper end of
the lake was announced today by
Rogue River national forest service
headquarters. The road Is narrow
and rough for the last five miles,
however, and the greatest of caution
was advised. Chains are required
and an ax and shovel were recom
mended as extra car equipment In
case of emergencies. Space has been
provided by the forest crew for park
ing and turning at the end of the
road.
L'tah to Help Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce today received
a letter from the office of Gov. Henry
H. Blood of Utah In which it was
said the state would be glad to con
tribute a gem or mineral specimen
to the chamber's "all-state friend
ship" display. It was the first reply
to the letters sent out last week
by the chamber to all governors. It
Is the chamber's plan to make a dis
play of specimens from all states the
nucleus of Its permanent gem and
mineral exhibit.

double bill for tomorrow and Satur
day. Featured In the cast are Chester
Morris, the victim; Helen Mack, his
wife; Leo Carrlllo, the racketeer, and
Chorus Called All members of the
Jackson County Teachers' chorus
were asked today by Esther Church
Leake, director, to report at the Bald
win piano shop before 8 o'clock to
morrow night. . The chorus Is to pre
sent two groups of numbers as part
of the Medford Music cmb program.
Return Home Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Ovelman returned last week from a
three weeks' stay at Richardson
Springs, Cal., where they went to
recuperate from recent Illness. They
said they enjoyed their stay at the
health resort and feel greatly Im
proved. ,
Mrs. Burelson Better Mr. and Mrs.
B. T. Burelson returned home by
train this morning from San Fran
cisco, Mrs. Burelson underwent a
major operation in the Bay City about
two weeks ago and Mr. Burelson went
down to accompany her home. She
is reported recovering nicely.

Meeting Changed Meeting of the
Lincoln School Service club has been
changed to May 14 from May 7 as
previously scheduled, In order to al
low members to attend the school
fair tonight and tomorrow. A large
attendance is asked for the May 14
meeting as business of Importance Is
to come before the group.
Drivers' Tests Written examinations
and road tests for operators and
chauffeurs will be given here Sat
urday from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m., with
Ward McReynolde, Btate examiner, in
charge. Persons wishing permits or
licenses to drive cars or trucks are
asked to consult Mr. McReynolds in
the examination room on the top
floor of the city hall.

CCC Bids Asked Quartermaster of
the Medford CCC district has called
for bids on a large quantity of sup
piles, Including flooring, roofing,
sheathing, sewer pipe, hardware, gal
vanised sheet steel and electrical
goods. The proposals may be seen at
the Jackson County Chamber of
Commerce or procured at district
CCC headquarters.

Crawford Visits Here Perry Craw
ford, former manager of the Califor
nia Oregon Power company and now
president of the American UtUltlus
Service corporation of Savanna, 111.,
left last night after spending the
day in Medford visiting old friends
and business associates. After a mo
tor trip around the city and valley
with Tom Bradley of Copco, Mr.
Crawford said Medford had improved
materially since he left about eight
years ago. He reported that business
was going ahead steadily In all parts
of the country and he foresaw noth
ing to prevent Its continuance. He
had his car shipped out from Chi
cago and will Join Mrs. Crawford In
San Francisco for a motor trip along
the coast.

lunch, the society to furnish coffee,
sugar and cream. At Tuesday night's
regular meeting B. R. Finch, high
school Instructor, gave a lecture on
the physical properties of minerals
and distributed mimeographed sheets
containing the essential points of his
talk. Thirty -six members attended
the meeting. The following were ad
mitted as members: Mrs, Martha
Miller, G. B. Woodsan, Roy Cameron,
George Maxwell. John T, Ross, Trea
vell Turpln, Mrs. Irvln Daley and
Venlta Daley. The club now has a
membership of 67, Miss Boardman
said. Mr, and Mrs. George Schu
macher were voted honorary members
in appreciation of their courtesy in
permitting the club to explore their
War Eagle mine on their first field
trip.
