STRIKE EVIDENCE

The lobby tu thronged with
policemen and Plnkerton men, Mrs.
Rosenberg said. Managers continued
to attempt to serve patrons but with
Uttlo success. Efforts by them to run
the switchboard and to take caxe of
desk details resulted In considerable
confusion, guests having to wait for
some tlma aa a hotel executive
searched for keys or attempted to
put through a telephone call.
Patrons carried their own bags al
though hotel managers would always
assist whenever possible. Taxi-cab
drivers refused to psrk near the ho
tel, sympathising with the strikers
enough to stay well outside picket
lines. By Sunday, however, they were
taking up their stands In the same
block aa the hotel although some dis
tance from entrances.
New visitors were not being regist
ered In most of the effected hotels,
Mrs. Rosenberg, stated, aa It was Im
possible to take cere of the guests
already thore. Beds went unmade,
dirty linen piled up and the result
ing confusion presented a major
problem to the hotels.
According to Mrs. Rosenberg, an
entirely different attitude could be
seen following the walk-out, a de
pression seeming to have settled over
the entire hotel.
First-night pickets, Mrs. Rosenberg
said, seemed to be largely Filipinos
wnuo women predominated In the
picket ranks Sunday.
Mrs. Rosenberg believes that the
hotel men were taken entirely by sur
prise at the strike and she states
they were evidently extremely worried
over the situation. On Sunday they
aeemed to believe the strike may con
tinue for another week, she said.
While she found it an Interesting
experience, Mrs. Rosenberg stated she
i doesn't think It would be so much of
a lark for a longer period. She ssld
she was not greatly Inconvenienced
and Is glad she had the opportunity
of observing a strike situation. She
and her daughter returned home this
morning.
