Norma Shearer as Juliet Leslie

a three day run today
at the New Crnterlan theatre, shown

John Barry mo re as the bawdy, rois
tering Mercutlo, heads a notable list
that includes Edna May Oliver as
Juliet's nurse, a comedy role that
Is said to top her Miss Pross of "Tale
of Two Cities;" Basil Rathbone as
the fiery Tybalt, Reginald Denny as
Benvolio, C. Aubrey Smith aa Lord

Thrilling duels, fought with ra
pier md dagger and rapier and
cloak are among the dramatic high
lights of the film. The opening
scene, In which hundreds of men-at-arms
and retainers of the houses
of Montague and Capulet, fighting
with broadsword and shield, is one
of the more spectacular sequences.
And, said to be most magnificent
of all. Is the duel In which Basil
Rathbone slays John Barrymore and
la In turn killed by Leslie Howard.
The story, an exciting adventure
In the lives of Juliet and her Ro
meo, their meeting, their eager, des
perate love for each other, the swift
dramatic events that follow, causing
Romeo's banishment and their final
reunion, is one that has stood the
teat of time and Is today still one
of the most widely read.

A general assembly was called
Thursday to discuss the track meet
Saturday afternoon, and various other
announcements. This was the first
meeting to be held on the lawn and
the speakers were aided by the public
address system.
Mr. Bowerman, coach, showed the
different cups won In track meets
and gave a brief history of each.
The track meet to be held Satur
day Is an invitational one, inviting
Roseburg, Kerhy, Phoenix, Ashland
and Grants Pass. A large crowd is
expected.
Mr. Woods then told the students
of the debate program. It has been
several years since Med ford has
reached the finals in debate. Burton
Dougherty and Barbara Hampson will
uphold the negative against Corvallls
over radio station KOAC, Saturday
night. He then showed the cup won
for the southern Oregon champion
ship. We also won the western Ore
gon championship from Beaverton.
The drum corps Is giving their
first spring appearance Saturday, May

be open to the public from 7:30 to
10 p. m., Thursdoy, May J: Friday
from 2 to 8 and 7 to 10 p. m.
The Med ford Senior high band will
pUy Thursday night while the Jun
ior high band will play Friday night.
Another special feature will be edu
cational talking motion pictures,
which will run continuously in the
hall. Special demonstrations of the
teaching of georgraphy will be aided
by the use of new projectroscopes. a
machine which will reflect any pic
ture onto the screen. Much use Is
being made of the colored pictures
Lee Tracy in Criminal Lawyer Role

Leo Tracy has the title role with
Margot Grahame, famed English
actress, opposite. In a thrilling
drama of the courts, "Criminal
Lawyer." Tracy as a protector of
criminals defends Miss Grahame, ac
cused In night court of soliciting.
Tracy becomes attorney general and
Is proposed for the governor's chair
while Miss Grahame becomes his
assistant and is deeply In love with
him. The picture is said to be
thoroughly amusing, deeply emo
tional and Intensely thrilling. Edu
ardo ClanneUt, the sensational
"killer" In "Winterset." and Eric
Rhodes have the Important sup
porting roles.
"Criminal Lawyer" comes to the
Rlalto theatre for Wednesday and
Thursday only with "Dance Girl
Dance," starring Evelyn Knapp ana
Alan Dlnehart, as the companion
feature.

three-year old Gregory Garby, Port
land, escaped with minor bruises.

and Mrs. Maurice Carby, Waldorf

highway three mile south of here
when the accident occurred.

EUGENE, May 1. -(AP) Nearly
a ,000 Lane county rural school stu
dents gathered at McArthur court on
the university campus at 3 o'clock
today for the annual music festival,
highlight of the year for youthful
singers and musicians.
