3 PLEAD GUILTY,
IN COMING WEEK
Fusing of sentence upon three de
fendant, who entered pleas of guilty
this morning, was continued until
next week by Circuit Judge H. D.
Norton.
They were:
A, W. Downs, charged with utter
ing false endorsement to checks.
Downs leased the Corbln Edgell or
chard In the Eagle Point district,
and was granted advances of money
by the Pinnacle Packing company.
It Is alleged that he Issued checks
for lsbor, and pocketed the proceeds.

"I talked one morning," he said,
"with 13 men In the death house.
All of them were young men.
"Entering the 13th cell I saw a
young man pacing back and forth
seemingly In deep agony of soul. In
his hands he held an open Bible.
He told me his story and finished
by saying, 'Oh, 11 only I had known
about the word of Ood before I
committed this terrible crime. I
could have been saved from a life
of crime and would never have come
to such a traglo death'."
Brigadier Howell expressed belief
that "the problem of crime will never
be solved until there Is a revival of
real heart religion and the Bible Is
given Its rightful place In the home."
He described the Bible as a great
mirror In which people behold their
true likeness, and a book able to
make all "wise unto salvation."
Brigadier Howell flavors his ad
dresses by numerous Incidents and
Illustrations from his wide and var
ied experience In Salvation Army
service In three different countries.
Though past 60 years he has the
snap and vigor of a man In middle
life, has boundless enthusiasm, ex
presses the belief that God Is tlll
on the throne though all Is far from
right with the world but says that
he intends to fight till his last
breath to make things right.
Tonight at 7:45 the brigadier will
speak on "A Satisfying Religion." The

ings. The campaign will continue un
til May 10. On Sunday Brigadier
Howell will speak at 11 a. m. and
3 and 7:45 p. m.

Pomona Orange met at Eagle Point
April 34. In an all day meeting. At
tendance was smaller than usual due
to pressure of spring work on the
farm.
It was arranged to put on tfce de-i
gre'e of Pomona at Upper Rogue
Orange hall May 8 at 8 p. m. Twenty
four candidates are In readiness from
the Upper Rogue Orange alone, and
candidates from other granges will
swell the class to one of the largest
we have bad.
For that meeting also, the ways
and means committee plans a pie
social, so everyone please bring a
pie, "open or klvered." A very large
attendance Is expected.
Lecturo program at the last meet
ing consisted of fine orchestra num
bers by the Eagle Point orchestra,
under direction-of Mrs. Roy Stanley;
skit by Eagle Point ladles; reading
by Roxy Ann member; and a very
Interesting talk by Mr. Woods, of
the Medford public speaking depart
ment on "Death Rides the Highway.
Everyone Is ssked to bring as many
flowers as possible to the degree
meeting at the Upper Rogue Orange
hall May 8 In bowls and baskets. If
possible.
This Is slso the only regular meet
ing to be held before the session of
the State Orange, so subordinate
granges are reminded to have their
resolutions for the State Orange In
at this meeting.

ed to strive for at least two candi
dates for Pomona to take the de

a full-time position as announcer
over radio station KJR In Seattle,
he wired his parents yesterday.
OeBauer has been associated with
the station on part-time assignments
for the past several months while
attending classes at the university.
He withdrew from school after re
ceiving the permanent position.
His present hours of broadcast are

Otto A. Wlckletn, owner of a red
rooster and two prize hens, taken
by the brothers, valued at 94. He said
today the brother wanted to repay
him and "I'll have to find some
weeds for them to pull." Wlckleln's
henhouse was also raided for eggs.
He said, "I dont care anything about
the eggs but I did hate to lose my
two best hens."
The stain pig Is valued by Its
owner at 97 and the Harris brothers
will make amends by picking pears
on the Timothy White orchard.
The county school superintendent
reports the two brothers have at
tended school all week "and are do
ing fine and keeping their promises."
