Buying faltered afterward. The tick
er tape was behind for a time In tho
morning and again briefly in the
final period.
Retarding the come-back was fur
ther unsettled market abroad, al
though selling of American securities
from that source, credited with oe
lng one of the principal motivators
of the recent relapses, appeared to
have dried up considerably.
The last hour retreat was ssld to
have been partly the result of the
selling out of a number of traders
who failed to answer brokerage mar
gin calls some price stiffened near
the close. Transfers were around 3,-
000.000 shares.
