DISTRICT PARLEY
HERE ON SUNDAY
1 Fraternal Order of Eaglei will bold
a district convention here Sunday
with the Medford aerte as host. Dele
gates are expected from A&hland,
Grant Pass. Lakevlew. Klamath Falla
and Roseburg. The day's program
will be held In the Knlghta of Pythias
hall at Fifth and Grape streets.
Business sessions will be In charge
of D. D. Hall of Portland, deputy
grand worthy president. In charge
of arrangements la a committee com
prising past-presidents of the Med
ford aerie, with Ray Schumacher of
Talent as general chairman.
The day's program:
10 a. m. to noon Registration of
visitors.
I p. m. Parade through the city's
business section, with the drum corps
and drill teams of the Klamath Falls
aerie and the drill teams of the Med
ford aerie and auxiliary.
3 to 4:30 Business meeting.
4 :30 to e Tour through "Pear Blos
som Way" as designated by the Cra
ter club, sponsor of pear blossom
week.
a p. m Banquet, served by the
Medford auxiliary.
7 to 8 Entertainment: Dances
by students of Ruth Luy's school:
music by Burt's hlll-bllly band: one
act play, "Road to Mauro," by three
girls from Wagner creek.
8 to 10 Dancing, with music by
Dyn?e's orchestra. The dance la fo:
members of the Eagle lodge and aux
iliary only.
ELKS TO GATHER
Second annual get-together for
Elks of southern Oregon and north
em California will be held In Cres
cent City, Cal., on Saturday and Sun
day. April 24 and 35. according to an
announcement received here today.
The event Is sponsored by the Elks
of Crescent City and Del Norto
county.
The program provides for a parade
on Saturday afternoon and a banquet
and ball at Memorial hall In the
evening. On Sunday. If weather per
mits, a- large crab feed will be held
on the beach.
The get-together event was held for
the first time In Crescent City last
summer and at that time many Med
ford Elks attended. It Is planned
to make this year's affair more ex
tensive than that of a year ago.

Helen Keller Is
Pickpocket Victim
On Japan Arrival
TOKYO. AprU 18. OP) A pick
pocket today stole the purse of
Helen Keller, celebrated blind and
deaf educator, shortly after she
had stepped ashore at Yokohama
for a Japanese lecture tour.
All Japan was aroused at the
incident, occurring, as It did. on
Miss Keller's first visit to the
Orient. A widespread search for
the culprit waa under way.
The purse contlaned 300 yen
(about 960). Miss Keller herself
did not report the theft and police
learned of It only by chance.
Japanese gave Miss Keller a
noisy and colorful welcome. She
Is to lecture and Introduce a
newly developed "talking book"
to Japan'a 200.000 blind persons.
Bonneville Crew
On Reduced Basis
BONNEVILLE. April 16. UP) As
construction on Bonneville dam nears
completion the number of workers
baa been reduced to 1634 on the en
tire project, the U. S. army engineers
said today.
The payrolls listed 3700 m'.a on
December 31 and a year ago the fig
ures ran well over 3000.

IN PREPARATION FOR
SENIOR CLASS PLAY

The senior olass play. Kathertne
Green" famous plot, "The Leaven
worth Case." In steady rehearsal for
the past month, is now In final state
of preparedness with date of produc
tion set for April 37 and 38. Not only
has a cast of IS members worked In
constant study to make the play a
success, but a large number of teach
ers and students are also aiding.
Kenneth Scott Wood, high school
instructor, is directing the cast with
Wilson Watt and the high school or
chestra providing musical arrange
ments. Miss Maurlne Carroll and her
student assistants are In charge ot
all costuming. Makeup is handled by
Mrs. Sether, with Jean Piatt heading
the program committee.
Property managers are June Cook
and Richard Thlerolf. aided by Ardo
Stocks and Taylor Yocom as stage
crew. Ticket manager la Richard
Thlerolf assisted by Betty Penning
ton. Publicity will be handled by
Richard Thlerolf and Barbara Hamp
son. Margaret Younj; will be acting
head usher.
The cast includes Janice Shreve.
Dale Sims, Jack De unison, Fred Beck.
Rose Ellen Slonecker, Robert Sage.
Corrine Hsrwood. Dorothy Thomas.
Jean Culy, Betty Childress. Carlin
Piatt, Warren Baylisa and June Cook
The four-act drama will be pre
sented In the high school audito
rium with prices for tickets to be
announced at a later date.

ILL GIVE PROGRAM
A delegation of Rotary and Crater
club members will leave here In a
special Southern Pacific car Monday
night for Portland where they will
attend a Medrord-Portland good-will
luncheon-meeting of Rotarlans.
The Medford contingent la to tw
met Tuesday morning by a police es
cort and conducted to the Portland
Breakfast club for a matutinal col
lation. The Rotary luncheon will be held
at the Benson hotel, with the Med
ford members presenting the pro
gram. The Craters are to participate
in the program and several stunts
have been arranged.
In the afternoon the Medford men
will make a trip to Bonneville dam
a guests of the Portland Chamber
of Commerce.
Medford business men are Invited
to Join the pilgrimage and anyone
Interested in participating In th
good-will visit is asked to notify the
Jackson County Chamber of Com
merce.
The group will leave Portland Tues
day night and arrive back in Medford
Wednesday morning.

125-PASSENGER PLANES
ON DRAWING BOARDS
WASHINGTON , April 16. (AP) A
congressional committee heard to
day that 135-passenger airplanes, al
most twice as large as any now in
use,, already are "on the drawing
boards."
Colonel Edgar S. Gorrell. president
of the Air Transport Association of
America, gave this Information to
house pos toff Ice subcommittee con
sidering proposed revision of the air
mall laws.
"We are flying 3214 ton boats over
water," he said, "and have 40-toi,
boats on order. Ships with a capac
ity of 125 passengers already are on
the drawing boards."
14 PER CENT SLASH
IN ELECTRIC RATES
SALEM. April 16. (AP) Twenty
five hundred users of electricity in
the area served by the West Coast
Power company will receive a H per
cent reduction In rates under the
new schedules tiled by the power
company with the public utilities
commissioner today.
The saving will total about 20.
900 annually under the 1036 sched
ules, the commissioner announced.
The rates will affect all services from
Toledo on the coast, south, through
Lincoln, Lane. Douglas and northern
Coos communities to north of Marsh-field.
