The Americanism chairman of

contributed this article for this week:
"As Americanism chairman of the
American Legion auxiliary I am writ
ing this hoping that throughout this
year and the years to come we will
give careful thought to matters per
taining to our government, and the
betterment of our people.
"Our country was founded upon
solid principles of Integrity and a
heritage of courage and daring was
left us by those Pilgrim fathers who
dared every hardship that they might
cherish and maintain those princi
ples. "Americanism is a matter of
growth. The American government
like all sound government. Is based
upon a careful analysis of the politi
cal principles and governmental ex
periment of the past. Only those
Ideas which safeguard the rights of
all and which are otherwise pecul
iarly adaptable to our Uvea as a peo
ple, are embodied In our constitution.
It represents the accumulated politi
cal wisdom of the ages, and not the
weird untried economic theory of
some particular group or class; who
may hare been Instructed (aa many
are) to destroy first the Ideals of the
American.
"Let us be alert to the many enem
ies within our midst, enemies of our
government and of those ideals for
which our forefathers fought and
died.
May those Ideals be the torch
that each generation of Americans
will carry to keen alight the fires
