COLUMBUS. Ohio. Nov. 13. (API
A four-point program through which
he said the farmers could achieve.
by their effort, Improved rural con
ditions was presented today by L. J.
Taber, master of the National Orange.
Speaking to farmera of tho coun
try over a national radio hookup as
well as members attending the 70th
annual mooting, Mr. Taber urged the
farmers to:
"1 Use the power of education and
research to understand our problems.
"2 Build rural organizations suf
ficiently strong to defend the Interest
of agriculture.
"3 Through collective bargaining
and co-operative marketing bring to
agriculture Its share of the consum
ers' dollar.
"4 Secure legislation and econom
ic Justice In the essentially American
way, through orderly processes. denv
ocratlc Institutions and control."
The Orange, Mr. Taber said, will
demand a larger share of the nation's
Income, a prlco structure that will
enable tho farmer to pay his debt-,
to buy the supplies of city and town
and to enjoy a standard of living
equivalent to that ot the rest of the
land.
"We will fight." he said, "for lower
coat and more efficient transporta
tion, for an honest dollar, for lower
Interest rates, for better marketing
conditions and for the American
market for the American farmer.
"The future demands a farm or
ganisation that Is firmly rooted In
the soil and rural fireside. Amcrlcn
Is fed up on top-heavy paper organi
zations. American agriculture Is de
termined to direct Its own affairs."
