The machine, built exproaaly to
combat cancer, was installed for the
first time In any hospital at the In
stitute three years ago.
"Our records show that an Increase
of 24 per cent In survival rate one

SYDNEY (UP) Contrary to the
ethlos of nudist colonies who Insist

Oulnca natives object In tha extreme
degree of having white people among
them go "native."
Bo strongly Is this objection en
trenched In the natlva tribes, that
L. P. Ledoux. American anthropolo
gist, was obliged during bis five
months stay with New Guinea tribes,
to keep cleanly shaved and .maintain
tha standard of living In conformity
to the dignity of a white man.
Ledoux, who Is conducting anthro
pological research work under the di
rection of the department of anthro
pology of the American Museum of
Natural History, has returned from
his flva months work on tha Island
of New Guinea. He spent the entire
time In the village of Kaup.
"I built my own house," Ledoux
said, "and dressed myself In a shirt,
shorts and straw bat. But the natives
insisted that I should keep my place
as a wnlta man and also as a matter
of respect to their own high etandesM

keep my hair combed.
"While X took a large amount of
canned food with me, yet I ate little
of it aa I raised all manner of vege
tables and game was plentiful.

which deal mainly with activities
of life, they manage to sell them
to tribes along the coast, and In
some cases they translate the words
with the object of creating new
themes."
The trading aspect of the natives
of New Oulnea has puzzled scien
tists for years, Ledoux says. They
have a currency based on shells, and
an effort la now being made to re
gard this from ft purely scientific
point of view.
