GRID GUESSER PICKS 'EM
FOR SATURDAY'S TUSSLES
(By Herbert Barker)
NEW YORK, Nov, 13. (AP) Totally disregarding the vaunted evil
influence of Friday the 13th on the theory that things couldn't be any
worse, this football guesscr arlsesfrom the reoln and leade again with
the chin:
Princeton-Yale: Slow to get under
way this year, the Tigers apparently
are ready to roll along now while
Yale, with not much reserve strength,
ha looked, tired in Its last two en
gagements. Princeton's Impressive
41-13 rout of Cornell was enough to
swing this ballot to the Tigers.
Army-Notre Dame: Notre Dame
teams habitually reach their peak
against the Cadets. Army's first team,
possibly, la more effective than any
single combination the Irish have
put together this season but Notre
Dame's tremendous store of reserves
more than counter-balances that ad
vantage. The nod, not too emphatic,
goes to Notre Dame,
Nebraska-Pitt: A real dog-fight In'
prospect here. Nebraska bas many
scores to settle with the Panther
and Husker teams notoriously are
hard to beat at Lincoln. Despite all
this and with a hasty glance at the
nearest shelter, Pitt.
Minnesota-Texas: The Texans nave
no luck and they'll need that and
plenty more here. Minnesota.
Washington - Southern California-:
Somebody, perhaps, Is going to catch
up with Washington before the Pa
cific coast conference season Is over.
Maybe Southern California will to
morrow but Washington gets the
call until then.
U. C. L, A. -Washing ton State: Hop
ing for the beat, U. O. h. A.
California-Oregon: California's fi
nally playing up to expectation? and
rates a clear-cut edge on this one.
Oregon State-Stanford: Two big
come-back teams meet In this one.
On sheer guess-work, Stanford.
Santa CLara-St. Mary's: Throw out
past performances in this one but It
still looks like Santa Clara.
Montana-Idaho: Out of the hat,
Idaho.
Auburn-Louisiana State: Louisiana
to maintain Its undefeated status.
Georgia Tech-Alabama: There's
danger for the Crimson Tide here
but Alabama must be picked.
Michigan-Northwestern: Northwest
ern, decisively.
Marquette-Mississippi: The Golden
Avalanche to roll over unlucky Mis
sissippi. Harvard-Navy: Navy, but it should
be close.
Cornell-Dartmouth: Cornell will be
tougher on Its own battlefield but
Dartmouth rates the call.
Columbia-Syracuse: The Lions are
not the same without Sid Luckman
but wel ltake 'em over Syracuse.
DuQuesne-Carnegle: We would set
tle for a tie but DuQuesne gets the
nod.
Illinois-Ohio State: Ohio State.
Iowa-Purdue:- Purdue.
Chicago-Indiana: Indiana but the
Hooslers had better do a better job
but we'll take 'em over Syracuse.
Southern Methodist Arkansas:
Thwe's no rhyme or reason to the
southwest conference. Out of the hat,
S. M. U.
Kansas-Michigan State: Michigan
State.
Oklahoma-Missouri: The coin says
Oklahoma.
Kansas State-Iowa State: Kansas
State.
SEEK TRADES FOR
CHICAGO, Nov. 13. (AP) The
sword still hangs high over the heads
of all Chicago Cubs.
Manager Charlie Grimm said so to
day as he conferred with Owner P. K.
Wrlgley over possible trades this win
ter to strengthen the team which won
the pennant In 1035, then skidded
badly from the top last season. Every
member of the team, Grimm said, ts
subject to trades which would Im
prove the outfit.
Particularly, Grimm would like a
hard-hitting outfielder, and intimated
efforts will be made to land Wally
Berger of the Boston Bees or Hank
Lelber of the New York Giants.
DUCK HUNTING IS POOR
AS FREEZE CONTINUES;
FEEDING AREA BURNED
The following bulletin was Issued
today by the Rogue River national
forest service:
"Duck hunting in Upper Klamath
lake continues poor because of the
cold, clear weather. Feeding ponds
have frozen and the birds are stay
ing out In the lake, making it almost
impossible for shooting.
"In the smaller streams in the
Klamath lake region, as well as in
the Rogue river valley, some shooting
has been obtained durlag the past
week. Goose shooting has been only
fair. Reports Indicate that similar
conditions exist at Tule lake. No
change Is expected so long as the
present weather conditions prevail.
"In the past several days a fire
has swept over a thousand acres of
Upper Klamath marsh, destroying
feeding grounds for both ducks and
geese. Hunters who are interested
In improving shooting should keep
this tn mind and use the same care
of fire in the marshland as in the
forest."
