Chorus to Meet Jackson County
Teachers chorus will meet Saturday
morning at 10 o'clock In the court

addressed the modern history class
at the senior high school yesterday
morning on his experiences In Pana
ma during the building of the Pana
ma canal when he was a member of
the medical corps stationed there. His
discussion Included descriptions of
types of native citizen and touched
on phases of foreign relations. The
class Is taking up study of the Car
ibbean states.

supreme court Tuesday added to lta
Judgment of $1,000 In the famous
"ltoh" case recently affirmed by the
supreme court of the United States
by allowing interest charges on the
sum allowed by the state's lower
court In Multnomah county to Ralph
Compton against the Hammond Lum
ber company.
Compton aued and was awarded
700 damages and 300 hospital ex
penses for the "itch" which he alleged
he contracted while employed upon
one of the lumber company'a boats.
After a series of hearlnga In the su
preme court and new trials, the case
went to the federal tribunal at Wash

reclamation for 48,000 acres of gov

16-year old farm boy faced trial to
day on first degree murder charges
after confession he ambushed and
killed a farmer to steal a six-year-old
automobile.
Assistant Prosecutor Lawrence J,
Hammond said Elmer Dillon, a
short, stocky youth clod In overalls,
had admitted that he lay in wajt for
nearly two hours before shooting
down 65-year-old Melvln Whaley as
the farmer alighted from his car to
do his milking at a farm near Can
andaluga, Mich, last night.
Dillon fled In Whaley's 1930 model
automobile and wrecked the car in a
ditch near Morenct, Mich.
