Rubbish Fire Chemical crew of
the fire department was called out
late yesterday afternoon to ex Unguis
a rubbish blaze behind the residence
of Vera F. Humphrey, 811 ' Taylor
street. The flames burned the In
sulation off telephone wires but no
other damage was done. The wires
were repaired by the telephone com

Beatty street has been accepted (or
enlistment In the United states army
and assigned to company P, 30th in
fantry regiment, which la stationed
permanently at the Presidio, San
Francisco, tt waa stated In a notice
received today from MaJ. H. D. Bag-
nail, regional recruiting officer of
Portland. Miller applied for enlist
ment at the Medford recruiting office
which Is In charge of Sgt. Will Is
Estep.
Pilot Here Overnight Sgt. C. O.
Cunningham this morning continued
his flight north after spending the
night here. He arrived at municipal
airport late yesterday afternoon, en
route In a Consolidated primary train
er from Rockwell field, San Diego,
Cal., to Pearson field, Vancouver,
Wash. He was accompanied by a me
chanic. The ship he was flying be
longs to the army reserve air corps
at Pearson field and was recently
overhauled at Rockwell field.
Returni Home James McLean, who
has been confined In Community hos
pital for he past three months. Is
to leave this evening by train for hia
home in Portland. McLean has been
mnoniMuMntr from the nmrjutatlon of
his right leg, necessitated by a wound

himself last August 6. Ho was sta
tioned at Whlskev Peak lookout in
the Rogue River national forest when
the accident occurred and was un
able to get help for several hours, as

brought to medical aid by a CCC crew

employed for the summer, being a
