A. E. Reames. who spent several days
In San Francisco, and Mrs. H. D. Mc
Caskey, who also made a short stay
In California.
The majority of those away are ex
pected to return home before or
shortly after the Thanksgiving holi
days, although some will spend the
greater part of the winter In the east
or south.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Frye have an
nounced the marriage of their daugh
ter. Roxanna. to Horace Knight. The
ceremony was solemnized In the First
Christian church the evening of Oct
ober 17. Rev. W. R. Balrd reading
the service.
The young couple are at home at
Durell court.
Miss Brophy Is
Week-end Visitor
Miss Elaine Brophy arrived here
Frldsy evening to spend the week-end
with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. V. D.
Brophy. She la a student at Oregon
State college In Corvallls.
Medford friends of Miss Brophy
entertained Tier at luncheon Saturday
afternoon. She returned to the cam
pus yesterday.
Meeting Planned

Announcement has been made of
the regular meeting tonight of the
Daughters of Union Veterans of the
Civil War. which la to be held at the
armory. All members are requested to
be present.
Record Crowd
Attends Frolic
A record number of parents, stu
dents and school patrons attended
the annual carnival of the Washing
ton school Parent -Teacher association
last Friday evening. Those In charges
report the affair an outstanding suc
cess. Dinner preceded the evening's fes
tivities, with colored moving pictures
of scenic attractions In Oregon being
shown following the banquet. Games
and other carnival attractions pro
vided entertainment for the re
mainder of the evening.
Executive Meetlnp
Scheduled Tuesday
All officers, committee heads and
committee members of the Medford
branch of the Business and Profes
sional Women's club are requested to
be present at a meeting tomorrow
night at the home of Mrs. Maude
Snider on North Orange. Plana and
a definite program of activities for
the year are t0 be outlined at this
time, and Mrs. Mabel Mack, presi
dent, has particularly urged the pres
ence of those concerned.
Time is announced as 7:30 o'clock.

ian Sisters and Knights of Pythias
for a dance to be held at the K. P.
hall Tuesday evening, November 3,
Instoad of Saturday evening as prev
iously announced. All members of
both groups and their families and
friends will be guests of the evening.
Elections returns will be a feature
of the evening, according to those in
charge.

Prom California
Miss Alberta Knlps, of Oakland,
Calif., Is expected to arrive soon to
visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.
O. Knlps, at their home on the Oak
Grove road. Miss Knlps formerly re
sided here and will be welcomed by
a number of old friends during her
stay.

For California
Leaving for the south this evening
will be Mrs. Alfred Swlnerton, who Is
returning to her home in the bay
district after spending several days
here. She has been a guest at the
river home of Mr. and Mrs. F. G.
Noyes, or Napa. Calif.
Mrs. Swlnerton arrived last Friday
with Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Volkman.
who have also been guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Noyes.

KLAMATH FALLS. Oct. 26. (API
A big, AquATS brick building on the
eastern fringe of the Klamath rolls
business district sprang to now lite
today. Tar the first time In 20 years
It was serving the purpose for which
it was built housing a newspaper
plant.

took over the building, remodeled
and re -equipped It and installed a
new type heating system to over
oome one of the structure's greatest
problems.
The building was erected In 1013
to house The Northwestern, meteoric
dslly which rose and fell in three
years.
Solution of the heating problem

ural hot water heat in certain sec
tions of Klamath Palls. The old
Northwestern building lies on the
edge of the city's hot springs dls
trlct. Last summer after one or two
unsuccessful attempts, a well, bored
deep, brought in water of almost
boiling temperatures. Piped Into the
building. It heats the front office
through stsndard rsdlators and the
shop through a hot-air blower sya-tem.

Last meeting before the election
will be held by the Young Democratic
club of Jackson county at 8 o'clock
tomorrow night In party headquar
ters. 217 West Main street.
All locsl candidates sre scheduled
to sddress the young Democrats.
Election day duties will be assigned
to all the members. It was stated by
J E. Murray, president.
As this will be the csmpalgn wind
up meeting, all members are urged
by Mr. Murray to report at had
qusrters promptly at 8 o'clock.

President Roosevelt will carry Ore
gon by a margin of at least 80,000
votes, according to calculations of
the Democratic state executive com
mittee, It was stated today by A. E.
Reames, committee member.
Mr, Reames attended a meeting of
the committee In Portland Saturday
when a whirlwind finish was mapped
out for the campaign. Present were
Claude McColloch,. state chslrman.
Howard Latourette. national commit
teeman, and tho other nine members
of the committee, Mr. Reames said.
Mr. Latourette and Mr. McColloch
will apeak at headquarters here to
night. Mr. Reames left here 'Saturday
morning and ' returned Saturday
night, travelling each way by plane.

Sheriff H. D. O'Brien of Cowlitz
county, Washington, arrived by auto
this morning to take Mabel Allen and
Alice Wlckman. two 15-year old
Longvlew girls, into custody. The two
young ladles ran away from home
Thursday afternoon after school, en
route to visit an aunt In Los Angeles
and to escape from parental discip
line. When they arrived here their orig
inal supply of cssh ($3) was exhaust
ed, -and they appealed to state and
city police to be returned home.
They were turned over to Miss Lillian
Roberts of the American Red Cross
here, who said they were ready end
willing to return to their school
books after several days of sdventurc
on the open road.
