The Bsgley Canning company In
Ashland today started on the 42nct
day of packing tomatoes after the
longest and heaviest season on rec
ord, and the fruit Is still flooding
Into the Ashland plant at the rate of
between 79 and 80 tons each day,
After a season's average of over 60
tons per dsy, according to Ralph
Koozer, manager of the cannery.'
"Already we have exceeded last
veer's total pack by over 50 per cent."
Koozer said, "and If the favorable
weather continues, we will be run
ning full shifts for at least another
week, althoueb some of the fields
are now fairly well depicted."
Ordinarily the tomato season
vould be over and frost would have
spoiled the remaining crop by this
time of year, the Ashland manager
aid. He stated that the farmers snd
the cannery were both- reaping ex
ceptional benefits from the prolonged
fair weather, with hundreds of farm.'

here. According to J. P. Naumes,

quarters In Medford, several carloads
of green tomatoes nave.ncen enippen
east, ripening enroute. and arriving
In prime condition for SAle.
Naumes announced that the ex
periments tend to prove that toma
toes can be picked green with gooa
results, opening a new market for
that kind of fruit. Ordinarily the
flrat frost blights the vines and
leaves the fruit In no condition for
canntng or packing, but, according
to Naumes, frost will leave many of
the green tomatoes still in shipping
condition.
The green shipments will mean a
ssvlng of thousands of dollars to val
ley farmer' who have seen their to.

Naumes pointed out. Several more
car loads of the green fruit will be

' The workings of a bank and Its

A. R. Puchner, assistant manager
conducted the class on Its visit and
explained savings accounts and vari
ous other phases of bsnk services
which might have a bearing on stu
dent and business life. Monteer plans

houses of the city snd also 'contem

dtnts by merchants and professional
men ot the city.
