Miss Brlggs' Away Mies Marlon
Brlggs, teacher of reading and lan
guage at the Jackson school, has been
granted an Indefinite leave of absence
for several weeks. She left This morn
ing for her home in Hermlston. Ore.,
called by the Illness of her father.
Her position In the school will be
filled by Mrs. J. F. Fliegcl during her
absence.
Ashland Resident Passes . Jerome
M. "Jerry" Oault, 26, former resident
of Ashland and student at the South
ern Oregon Normal school, passed
away In a Portland hospital yester
day morning, according to word re
ceived by Ashland friends. He was a
well-known football player on nor
mal school teams and also operated
the SUvercrest dairy In Ashland for
some time. He had many friends and
acquaintances throughout southern
Oregon. He died from peritonitis
which developed following an appen
dicitis operation. He had resided In
Portland for several months.
MARTIN SELLS SHARE
IN FRANKLIN'S CAFE
Dale Franklin tias announced the
completion of the purchase of full
ownership In Franklin's cafe on South
Central avenue. The cafe was open
ed 12 years ago next month by Prank
lln and G. V. Martin. The latter has
told his half-Interest to Franklin and
plans to leave In the near future
for Los Anegeles where he will take
up residence. Both Martin and Frank
lin are well known1 through their
many years of successful operation
of the rcrtaurant.
Doyle Franklin, brother of Dale,
and former owner of the Peach street
grocery near Palmt will b associated
in the business with his -brother
Dale Franklin stated that he plans
remodeling of the cafe In the near
future, with the exact time and scope
of the renovating project yet to be
decided. i
