The ladles of the Civic Improvement
Club gave a reception Tuesday even
ing In honor of the school faculty
and school board and the parents of
the community. A covered dlh din
ner was served to about one hundred
at 6:30. At the close of the meal
many songs were sung by those pres- j
ent. Mrs. Elizabeth Fowler, president j
of the club, welcomed all and Intro
duced H. N. Swank, chairman of the I
board, who after a few remarks In-;
troduoed O. H. La Crosse and O. 8.
Batch, the other two board members,
and J. M. Whipple, the clerk. He
then Introduced the principal, Wm.
Lee Brlcker, who gave an interesting
talk, telling how he had spent his
vacation. He then Introduced the
other teachers who answered by a few
timely remarks. The meeting was
then turned over to visiting and get
ting acquainted. A very pleasant ev
ening was enjoyed by those present.
A short meeting was held by the
Townsend Club Tuesday evening, but
as most of the members were at the
reception It was decided to hold an
other meeting on next Tuesday night.
Sept. 32nd, when everyone la asked
to be present. Not only members but
visitors are also welcome. Cake and
coffee will be served at close of the
meeetlng. Ladles are to bring cakes.
Coffee, sugar and cream will be furn
ished by the club.
Mr. and Mrs, Jack Maratette and
small son of San Franolsco arrived at
the Wiley-Carter ranch Sunday to
visit some time with Mrs. Maralette's
brother. Reed Carter and family.
Fred Sommerfleld who was killed
near Portland last week while riding
a freight train, was a rancher from
near Kerby and was the brother of
Mrs. Floyd Dover and had visited
here many times.
Mrs. Mildred Shults left by motor
Friday morning for Klamath Falls
where she was an overnight visitor.
Two bouses are receiving a coat of
paint, Mrs. Fowler's house on Oak
street and the Overton house on
Broadway.
Jim Whipple left Thursday for a
few days visit at the Placer mine on
Pleasant creek, the guest of Mr.
Miner and Bandera.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd ' Dover are
spending a few days at their home.
"Singing Pines,' on Evans creek. Mr.
Dover spends most of his time on the
road for the Townsend plan and for
Will Is Mahoney.
Many from here spent Sept. 13th at
the Northwestern fair at Oold Hill.
Live Oak grange, No. 856. won second
prize on their booth, while many lo
cal people carried off blue and rod
ribbons on exhibits.
We are glad to report that A. M.
Snow, who underwent two operations
recently at the Joseph" ne General
hospital at Grants Pass, Is recovering.

P.-T. A. held a very successful and
pleasant meeting September 18 from
3:30 to 4:00 p.m. After the business
meeting the progrsm waa opened with
a welcome by Mrs. Albert Stocks, the
president. This was followed by a
piano solo by Velma Brock: the na
tional president's message. Mrs, Oer
ber; a dsnoe by Neva and Elnia Crou
cher; piano solo by Paulina Miller,
and a talk by each teacher and the
principal. The next meeting will be
hold on the evening of October 0, so
that the fathers may attend.

Marie Boyd, who spent the past
month with relatives in Lot Angeles,
returned here September 14 where
