NEW CROP TUSKS
BIG TOP PRICE
PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 8. (AP)
firm prlcca are prevailing on the
Portland market tor new crop tur
keys. One leading wholesaler put out a
selling price of 24-25 cents a pound
compared with 20-22 cents for old
crop hens. Old crop toms are quoted
18-19 cent dressed for good birds.
Prevailing value on broiler birds
are considered excellent, with de
mand constantly increasing. Most
producers prefer to await greater
weights with maturity but the In
creasing demand for young birds Is
fast becoming a factor In the Indus
try. Weights of new crop turkeys are
as high as 18 pounds, a heavy bird
for any period of the season. The
birds are showing exceptionally early
xnaturlty.
