Among hostesses of the week Is

the Town club complimenting Mrs.
John Iff. Doorr, Jr., formerly of Hawaii
and now residing with her husband
at Crater Lake,
Mr. Doorr 1 a noted geologist and
naturalist who has been associated
with the national pork . service at
Crater Lake for the past several
months, having been transferred here
from his post In Hawaii early last
winter. Mr. and Mrs. Doerr have
made many friends In the valley dur
ing their residence at the resort.
With the close of the park season,
the Doerrs will mako their home in
Klamath Falls for the winter months.
Pocahontans Will
Celebrate Birthdays
Past chiefs of Pocahontas lodge
will take charge of the meeting
scheduled for tomorrow evening,
which will also feature the obser
vance of birthdays and the awarding
of the attendance prize.
A card party will follow the busi
ness session, with arrangements being
made by the social committee, Wilms
Hayes, Rose Slngler and Ed Schackel.

Tucker Guests
Depart for Homes
A number of the guests who have
been entertained at the Nion Tucker
summer residence, Rogue's Roost, on
Rogue river, returned to tholr homes
by train last night. Among them was
M O. Ellsworthy, who bosrded a
northbound train, the others going
south ito" residences In San Francisco
and the bay district.

left Monday morning for San Fran

Leaves for Visit
Leaving on the Shasta Tuesday
evening waa Mrs. C. B. Purucker, who
la planning an extended vacation trip.
She will go first to Beverly Hills, Cal.,
where she will be the guest for some
time of her daughter and aon-ln-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Relnecke.
Mra. Purucker will continue east
from California, stopping en route
for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. See ley
Hall, former well-known residents of
Medford. From Chicago. Mra. Puruck
er will go to Pittsburgh, where she
win be the guest of relatives and
friends.
She expects to be awsy two months.

Mr, and Mrs, Robert Johnston
stopped In Medford yesterday V visit
old friends and relatives tor a short
time before continuing to their
home In Hamilton, Mont, They are
on a wedding trip following their
marriage laat Friday In Los Angeles,
Calif.
Mr. Johnston formerly ' resided In
Medford and has many friends here.
Among thoae entertaining the visitors
waa William B. Johnston, a cousin of
Robert Johnston.
Two Leave for
Motor Trip South
Miss Sybil Jean Young arrived from
Portland last evening by plane to be
the overnight guest of, her paronta,
Mr. and Mrs. Harvle young. She was
Joined here this morning by Mtas
aiadya LeBnande, of Oorvallls, who ar
rived on the morning train,
Miss Young and Mlas LaBrande left
today by motor for California, plan
ning to apend the ensuing two weeks
vacationing at various resorts In the
south, They will return north via
Medford.

Return Home Tuesday
Recent visitors In Medford were
Capt. and Mrs. Q. W. Oonneroud and
their daughter, Peggy, of Ban Fran
cisco, who left Tuesday to return to
their home In the south. The Oonner
ouds were guests for a week of Capt
and Mrs. Herman T. Meiring here,
and were greeted by a number of
friends In the army set.
Capt. and Mrs. Oonneroud have
been previous visitors In Medford and
have vacationed at various times at
southern Oregon resorts. Mrs. Oon
neroud and Peggy spent sometime
this year at Oregon Caves.

Among recent visitors In the valley
were Mr. and Mrs. Kelson Florey, of
Ocktand, Calif., who were the house
guests last week of Dr. and Mrs. K.
O. Rlddell at their home on the Old
Stage road.
Mrs. Florey was formerly Miss Vio
let Olson, of 'Jacksonville. Mr. Florey
Is Mrs, Rlddell's son.
Overnight Guests

Mrs. Myrtle Kaya and son Willis, of
Hollywood, calif., will be overnight
guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Wilson
today, en route home after a vacation
visit In Eugene. They will continue
south tomorrow.

TAKEN BY DEATH AT
ICE OF
Mrs. Alice M. Nichols, a resident of
Jackson county for the past 40 years,
passed away at the home of her
niece, Mrs. W. J. Hockenyos, on
Buckshot hill road at 11 p. rn. Wed
nesday, August 28, at the age of 78.
Auntie Nichols, as she was known
to hosts of friends, was born at Men
don, 111., June 8, 1858, and when a
young child moved with her parents
to Missouri, where she grew to young
womanhood and moved back to Illi
nois, where she resided until 1893
when she moved to eastern Oregon
to make her home. Three years lat
er, In 1898, she came to Medford to
make her home with her sister, the
late Emma McKeever,
" Her only son, A. Glen Nichols, en
listed In the aerial division at the
beginning of the world war and pass
ed away serving his country. She is
survived by four sisters: Mrs. S. K.
Loughlln. Mrs. J. McDavltt and Mrs.
Sabre Dodson, all of Missouri, and
Mrs. Arlte Taylor, Fort Morgan, Colo.
Also two nieces and two nephews;
Beulah Fletcher, Montague, Calif.;
Mrs. W. J. Hockenyos. Medford; O.
Emmett McKeever, Fort Klamath,
and L. C. McKeever, Hoqulam, Waoh.
Funeral services will be conducted
at the Conger chapel by the Rev. W.
B. Balrd at 2 p. m. Friday. The re
mains will be forwarded later In the
evening to Portland for cremation.
Five Under Arrest
Face New Charges
PORTLAND. Aug. 27. (AP) Five
men arrested Tuesday night in con
nection with a recent spell of hold
ups and Illegal entries had additional
charges of possession of stolen goods
placed against them yesterday.
Claude Fuller, 21, Andrew Came
ron. 21, and Ira Bailey, 21, had been
booked on charges of assault and rob
bery with dangerous weapons. Ben
jamin Lesmlester, 36, and Gordon
Taylor, 21, were being held for the
district attorney.
