in the Perl chapel for Mrs. Annie E.
Looker. The reoueat was Issued by

Edythe Martin, auxiliary president.
Mrs. Looker was a member of the
auxiliary and mother of Walter J.
Looker, member of the post.

week-end outing at Castle Craig
camp at the mouth of the Smith
river in California. The men will b
transported in five trucks scheduled
to leave the fair grounds at 7 o'clock

Buckshot Hill road by Miss E, V.
Harrett. Mr. Cox sells a ton of goat
cheeM yearly from his herd of 50
goats.
Mott Coming James W. Mott, Re
publican congressman from this dis
trict, will address the board of di
rectors of the Jackson county Cham
ber of Commerce at Its weekly luncheon-meeting
in the Hotel Medford
on Friday. September 28. It was an
nounced today. Congressman Mott Is
seeking re-election this year but he
assured the chamber that his Med
ford visit haa no political signifi
cance and that he will not touch
upon politics in his talk to the
board, the announcement said.

LEEVER FUNERAL
AT 2 P. M. SUNDAY
Funeral services for Mayor William
C. Leever of Central Point will be
held at the Perl chapel here at 2
o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Chris
tian Science church being In charge.
Burial will take place In the Central
Point cemetery. The Masonic lodge
will conduct a service at the grave
side. ,
Mayor Leever died in at Medford
hospital Wednesday evening after an
illness of several months. He was 78
years old.
Mr. Leever was born April 4. 1858.
on a donation land claim two miles
west of Central Point. His father.
William T. Leever. had come to Ore
gon In 1853. settling near Sclo in
Linn county. Coming to southern
Oregon in 1855. the father became
identified with the educational In
terests of the valley.
William C. Leever was the eldest
of ten children. His boyhood was
spent In various parte of the Rogue
River valley, where his father taught
school. His elementary education was
! received In an old log school house
j Just west of Central Point. Later he
attended the Ashland academy.
After conducting a drug business
In Washington Tor three years, Mr.
lever returned to Oregon In 1883
and became a supervisor on the con
struction of the Oregon & California
railroad from Roseburg to Ashland.
Subsequently Mr. Leever opened a
' grain warehouse and lumber yard in
central point. Later ne som ma miri
ness to become a clerk In a hardware
atore. About 30 years ago ho erected
the building now occupied by the
Leever hardware store and went Into
business for himself. He continued
a fast efficient Ironer on Tuesday .

Mr. Leever served on the boaTd of
trustees when Central ..Point was a
town. On March 3, 1909, he was elect
ed mayor of the Incorporated city.
He served as mayor until April 1,
1913. Subsequently he waa elected
county commissioner.
In 1920 Mr. Leever waa again elected
mayor of Central Point. He was pro
gressive and clvic-mlnded and many
notable Improvements were sponsored
by him while he held public office
He was a director of the local bank
and a prominent member of the Ma
sonic lodge. Hillah temple, and the
Christian Bcience church.
Mr. Leever was married Juty 13
1887. to Isabell Armstrong. Five chil
dren were born of the union, of whom
two survive.
Mr. Leever ia survived by his wife
and two sons. Wayne IT. of Seattle and
Earl C. of Ashland. Ho la survived
also by three brothers and six sisters.
They are Carl Leever, San Francisco;
Tom Leever, Dixon. Cal.; Ed Leever,
Fort Klamath; Mrs. Luclnda Guy.
Portland; Mrs, Elisabeth Meyor, Mo
desto, Cal.: Mrs, Vlnnlo Hathaway.
Vlsalla, Cal.; Mrs. Ida Bollinger,
Santa Cruz, Cal.; Mrs. Ada Damon,
John Day, nnd Mrs. Nellie Magce,
Klamath Falls.

Harry Gregory, transient, received
a 10-day ouspencled Jotl sentence
when he appeared for the second con-'
secutlve time before City Judge Allen
D. Curry this morning on a charge
of helng drunk In a publto place. Yes.
Wrday morning he was fined 10 on
the same charge. If he Is arrested
again, the Judge said, he will hare
to serve the Jail term.

will address the picnic assemblage, J.
R. Marshall, Jackson county chair
man, was notified today by state
headquarters. The speaker will be
James Farley, national chairman.
Senator Bark toy of Kentucky or Sen
ator O'Mahoney of Wyoming. An ef
fort will be made to bring the speak
er to Medford either beforo or after
the picnic, Mr, Marshall stated.
Mr. Marshall said that at least a
down Democrats would attend the
picnic from here. The picnic program
Includes music, singing, dancing,
