SICK HUSKY CREW

There have been many bright
chapters written In American row

which, have kept the United States

marking the Washington Huskies'
triumph over Europe's best crews In
the climax of the ln.19 Olympic naval

There has ben many a story writ

the youthful oarsmen from tho Paci

by the fashion In which they sur

capture Olympic honors second only
to track and field tr'iimpna from the
viewpoint of American sporting pride

Though there, was no secret before

Their coach, Al Ulbrlckson, after

because of conditions which we
couldn't control. Hume was so sick
for the better part of a week before
the Olympic regatta I didn't think
he rould row at all. But he Juat
couldn't stay on his back.

FACE BIG MEANY;
For the first time In many months
each wrestling match at the Armory
Monday night will be graced with the
presence of a star tough gent, and
brutality la expected to be the rule
and not the exception of the evening
Bob Montgomery of Georgia, who
flattened Les Wolfe of Texas last
week with a laahlng backward drop
kick, will provide the scowling in the
main event when he tangles with
George Craig, highly rated Kansas
ace, who will be appearing for the
flrat time In Med ford.
Craig, while not by nature a
meanle, also likes the rough going,
according to reports received here,
and he U not expected- to supinely
take the beating that Montgomery Is
aure to dish out. On the othsr hand.
he la likely to swing a few hefty
blows of hla own, and the struggle Is
expected to be tops Id excitement for
the evening. -
Cherokee Ike, primitive Indian
from Oklahoma, who missed super
meanle status last week when his
battling vas brought up short by a
right cross wallop delivered by Bobby
Chick, will again attempt to scale the
heights of meanyhood In a middle
event scuffle with Joe Hubka, son
nenberglng ex-football star from the
University of Nebraska. Hubka, like
msny powerful men, Is so sure of
himself that he seldom resorts to
dirty work, but hss frequently de
monstrated here that he la not averse
to a little alley battling If the occa
sion seems to Justify. In a mstcb
with Cherokee Ike, the occasion seems
likely to Juatlfy anything Hubka may
care to do.
Max Glover the first conqueror of
the meanle Tiger Taakoff In Med ford,
who subsequently donned the Tiger's
"haunting" robes and turned meanle
himself, will be the gargoyle behind
the mask In the opening struggle,
against the human hoist, Walter
Stratton. Glover, fishing In northern
California, free-lanced Into the city
and asked for a spot on the card.
Promoter Mack Illlard, with two
meanles already on the dotted line
for the top specs, decided to shoot the
works and signed Glover to do the
mucking in the opener. Stratton. who
claims co be one of the strongest men
alive, has not had singularly good
luck against the rough type of grap
pier, but has announced his Intention
of abandoning his clean methods and
slugging It out with Glover If the De
trolter turns dirty. The Detrolter as
sured the Mall Tribune yesterday that
he would.

MIUUS SQUAD TO
The Crescent City baseball team,
twice Tlctora over and once rlotlma
of the Medford baseball school, will
furnish oposltlon to the local club at
the senior high school field this af
ternoon. On July 4 and 8 the seafood
city thumped the Medford aggrega
tion, but did not fare so well In a re
turn engagement here on July 13.
The local are anxious to even the
count today.
Crescent City boasts & heavy hit
ting squadrou of stars, with oltver
fielders and fast basemen. Their two
chuckers are outstanding In their
league, and their catcher, Johnston,
has been considered so outstanding
that John Mlljus, mentor of the Med
ford team and scout for big league
clubs, has signed him for & season
with & Cleveland farm.
The high school field, freshly
Rpread with a three-Inch layer of slit,
has been rolled and put In prime
condition for what is expected to be
one of the fsstest gsmes on the Med
ford schedule this year. The field was
rolled by the city street department
yeaterday.
Interest in the Medford club la ris
ing, according to Austin Frazler. ac
countant for the organization. Con
tributions to help the school along
have been received during the past
week from the Carlton sisters, Major
Livingston, Leonard carpenter, Col,
Voorhles and Mrs. L. A. Salade and
a good attendance at games from now
to the end of the season will probably
allow the club, In Its first year, to
finish the season In the black.
Interest was good In the three pre.
vlous Crescent City games, and a big
crowd is expected today to sea the
local Juniors attempt to even the ser
ies, two and two.
