Arranged At Club
Mr. and Mrs. William Bowerman,
who recently arrived here to make
tbelr home after a honeymoon In
the south, were honor guests at
dinner arranged at the Town club
Friday evening by Mrs. Rupert J
Henry. Mrs. Bowerman was formerly
Miss Barbara Young, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ernest Hamilton Young, of
Altadena. Calif., and Is a niece of
Mrs. Henry.
Mr. and Mrs. Bowerman, whose
wedding June 33 In tbe Wee Kirk o'
the Heather at Pasadena was one
of the most prominent of the aeasonl
have been cordially greeted by their
many friends here since their arrival
a few weeks ago. A number of affairs
have been arranged to honor the
young couple by friends among Med1
ford's younger set, and others are be

who are also among Medford's newly
married couples, Mr. and Mrs. John

ment was a varied musical program,
which Included piano and Instru
mental music, piano duets, vocal
solos and s vocal trio, consisting of
the three Vroman sisters, who were
accompanied by their aunt, Mrs. Mat
tie Huenergardt.
Pastel shades of pink, yellow and

formed a colorful floral background.
Refreshments were served following
the presentation of a large number of
gifts to the honoree.

Meekers Back From
Vacation at Resorts
Recently returned from a vacation
trip which Included visits to a num
ber of California resorts are Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Meeker and small
daughter, Eleanor. They traveled by
motor.
The Meekers went first to Lassen
national park, where they met Clar
ence Kellogg, of Los Angeles. Prom
Lassen, they drove to Reno, Nov., con
tinuing from Nevada to Lake Tahoe,
upending several days at the famous
lake.
Motoring through California, they
stopped at Placervtlle and Sacra
mento, where they were the guests of
friends, and slso at Richardson
springs In the San Joaquin valley en
route home.

church for their annual evening lawn
party which will be an event of

as 8 o'clock.
A feature of the evening will be the
program on "Youth" to be presented
by the young people's society of the
church, who will be special guests of

Anna Hurd, of Holyoke, Mass., who
arrived several, days ago to spend
some time vacationing here. She Is
also a daughter of Mrs. E. H. Hurd.
Mrs. Hurd and her two daughters
were guests during the past week of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Manning of
Prospect, where recreational facilities
provide an Ideal vacation apot. Mrs.

Date of Wedding
Is Set at Party
At a charming party Friday night
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E.
McAllister, 19 North Peach street, an
nouncement waa made of .the ap
proaching marriage of their daughter,
Miss Marguerite McAllister, to Wiley
Phares, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A.
phares, of Los Angeles, which will be
an event of Sunday afternoon, Sep
tember 13, at the home of the bride's
parents.
The announcement was made In a
clever way, for aa tally cards were
drawn, the significance of the outer
decoration waa noted, and, as the
cards were opened, the date of the
wedding appeared. Tiny sachets In
scented lavender and crushed rose
leaves, In pastel shaded containera,
were given the guests with the cards.
The evening was spent In playing
auction bridge and In visiting. Prizes
were awarded. Miss Ftonnle Hollers
won the traveling prize given for no
trump bids. Mrs. Ruth Fortln was
given the prize for high score. Mrs.
Jean Pugh received second high and
Miss Lucille Vale the consolation
prize.
Refreshments were served at a
beautifully appointed table centered
la yellow flowers In a crystal bowl
at either side of which triple candle
holders In crystal held white tapers.
Pastel shades, with touches of silver,
wero used In appolntmenta and serv
ice. The guest list Included: Mr. and
Mrs. L. A. Phares, from Los Angeles,
who were house guests of the hosts.

turers displayed fall and winter ap
parel for women at the elahorate style
show which stressed the Importance
of black, according to Mr. Burelson.
Next In prominence were brown, rust,
and green. Among the new
silk fabrlca featured by style author
ltles are moire, solre and taffeta.
Velvet will be much In evidence for
evening wear. Belted and swsgRer
back coats nnd suits with novel sleeve
and collar trentment were shown with
equal frequency. Mr. Burelson stated.
Dcrwln Jacobson, who came to
Medford reccnly from Minneapolis,
Minn., will remain hers to assist Mr.
and Mrs. Burelson, his aunt and
uncle, at their store. He waa In
charge of management during their I
absence.

In Quiet Ceremony
Miss Katharine Reese became the
bride of Emll Peterson of this city,
at the home of her uncle, C. W.
McDonald, yesterday afternoon at
o'clock. The quiet ceremony was per.
formed by Dr. Sherman L. Divine
before a small group of close rela
tives. ', x
The bride la the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. F. A. Reese, of Turin, Iowa,
and has made her home in Medford
for the put five years, being on tbe
lacuuy of the Howard school.
The couple left Immediately after
the ceremony for a short wedding
trip, after which they will be at
nome in Meaiord.

Mr. Wortman haa had 18 years ex
perience In the food business. Prior
to nis leaving Medford he managed

Mr. Wortman saya: "We will feature
home products and we are especially

John Smith has returned to Med
ford from Oakland, Cal., to assist In

For Lengthy Stay
In Southern City
Leaving this evening fos the south
will . be Mrs. Elsie Stone and her
daughter, Miss Ruby Stone, who will
go to Los Angeles. They plan to re
main In the south 'indefinitely, and
will be the guests of relatives and
friends for a while.
Mr. and Mrs. Dow 8ton, son and
daughter-in-law of Mra. Elsie Stone,
left last week to make their home In
San Francisco, where he was trans
ferred. Also leaving last week to
mske his home In the bay city was
Vaughn Stone, brother of Dow.
Mrs. Stone and Miss Stone will be
away for several weeka, and may de
cide to make their home In the south.
Stewards Return
From Market Week
In San Francisco
After completing a month's busi
ness visit In Los Angeles and San
Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Steward
arrived here Friday by motor. They
attended market week style shows In
both of California's fashion centers.
Fall and winter dresses feature ac
centuated shoulder lines,, fuller,
shorter skirts and elaborate braid
trimming, according to Mrs. Steward.
Many of the new coats are lavishly
trimmed with fur. some of them
using banda of fur on the skirt.
Feathers are favored for the high
crowned hats which are shown In
felts and velvets. In addition to black
and brown, rich tones of green, brick
and Dubonne are Included In the fall
and winter color chart.
Before returning to Medford. Mr.
and Mrs. Steward were guests of the
latter'a sister, Mlsa Joan stoehr, who
Is In the surgery deosrtment of the
Saint San Bernardino Hospital. She
recently completed three years of
training at the Merrltt Hosdii.1 in
Oakland and the Lost Angeles county

Visitor Stops Here
After Orient Stay
Stopping In Medford this week-end
on the laat phase of an extensive va
cation trip la Miss Hazel May, of
Vancouver, Wn. Miss May, who ar
rived Friday from San Francisco, la
the guest of her sister and brother.
In-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Wray.
Miss May Is en route home after a
visit to the Orient, where she has
spent the past two months traveling.
She made stops at many of the nu
merous outstanding places of Inter
est,, and Is returning home with a,
