SPEED APPROVAL
A telegram received yesterday by
the Jeckeon County Chamber of
Commerce from .Senator Charlea L,
MoNary atated that President Roose
velt had signed the Medford munici
pal airport project. The plan, the
senator eald, now goea to the con
troller for final approval and allo
cation of WPA funda. Prompt action
on the project waa requested of the
controller office by Senator McNary,
he wired.
The project approved by President
Roosevelt, It wa explained at the
WPA office here, la a unit of a 1386.
000 airport modernization plan.
Which particular unit waa approved
by the president waa 'not specified by
Senator MoNary.
Two units have been up for con
sideration In Washington recently.
One called for an allotment of 40,-
000 and the other for 117.000. It
waa thought by the Chamber of
Commerce that . It waa the 117.000
unit that had been given presidential
approval aa that had been the latest
one mentioned In Washington dla
patches.

stitute clerk-carrier examination to
establish an eligible register from
which selections may be made to flu

At the bi-monthly meeting of the
Jackson County Health asaoctatlon
held Prldsy afternoon, Professor Irv
ing Vining of Ashland presented the
main address, speklng on "The Most
Important Periods of Humsn Devel
opment." The speaker atressed the
formative periods of childhood and
what can be done to lead the child
into healthy and productive chan
nels. Miss Blanche Runels, county health
nurse, reported on the menu of the
psychiatry clinics conducted perloc
cally by Dr. Henry Dixon of Port
land, who la brought here by the
association. Miss Runels outlined the
work done and mentioned a number
of highly successful achievements
brought about by theae efforts.

More than 350 Masons of southern
Oregon and northern California, at
tended the second' annual regional
meeting of the craft at the Masonic
temple here yesterday afternoon and
last night.
One of the principal purposes of
the conclave was to pay tribute to
H. Wayne Stanard, grand master of
the grand lodge of Oregon, and his
official family, Mr. Stanard gave an
address at the bualneaa session lsst
night.
The day's ' program began at two
o'clock with a school of instruction.
During the afternoon there was a
conference of masters, past masters,
secretaries and wardens. These two
events lasted until about 0:00 o'clock
when a reception, social hour and
registration were held.
A banquet was held at 0 :90 and

land police at 4 a. m. Friday. She
said that she. In company with Scott
and her two brothers, Millard and
Ellsworth, 33, cere returning from
Yreka, and admitted that all had
boon drinking, Scott heavily.
Near Shasta canyon, tit 9 a. m,
Scott Insisted upon taking the wheel
from her brother, Ellsworth, she told
Ashland police. Feeling that Scott
was Jn no condition to drive, ahe
and Ellsworth Jumped out of the
car and watched It careen rapidly
up the highway. They told police
they thought they saw the tall light
disappear over the canyon wall but It
waa so dark they could not tell.
A truck picked the two pedestrians
up and took them Into Ashland,
where they notified police, who In
turn notified the California highway
patrol, and a search waa launched.
No trace of the missing auto was
found until 0 o'clock Friday morn
ing when Millard Long, who bad
been knocked unconscious, recovered
and made hla way back to the high
way and flagged fide to Yreka,
where aid was summoned. Scott waa
taken from the mangled suto and
rushed to a Yreka hospital, but died
won after hli arrival.
Ashland police said that they had
had frequent trouble with Scott, he
having been arrested twice for drunk
en driving. The victim of the crash
la the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Scott of Beatty, on the Klamath In
dian reservation. The body of their
son waa returned there for burial

Olen Anuptger, new president of
the chamber of commerce, announc
ed yesterday he had appointed W. F.
Isaacs, George T. Frey and W. J.
Warner a committee on committees.
They are to meet In the chamber of
commerce at 8 o'clock Wednesday
night to select the personnel for all
committees for the 1036-37 year.

The disease broke out Friday In

ported having cmallpox were three
school ehlldren, two adults and one
