HUSKY CREW WINS
TRIPLE TRIUMPH
OVER CALIFORNIA
Easy Victory Scored And
Records Smashed-Head
ed For Olympics and
Poughkeepsie.
SEATTLE, Wash., April U. (AP)
Riding on the tall or a stiff south
erly wind, the University of Wash
lngton rowing fleet scored a smash
Ing, triple triumph over the touted
Bear of California for th second
successive year here today, and
busted every record ever made on.
L Washington.
The mighty Husklea trounced the
Calliurnla varsity by three lengths.
th Junlor-varalty by five and a half
and the freshmen by five.
And the way the smooth-stroking
Washington oarsmen left all three
Bear crews In their wake made them
look like they were rowing straight
lor Berlin and the Olympic games.
it waa the sixth time in the 33
years of the Pacific coast Intercolle
giate regatta that Washington had
scored a complete sweep In all throe
ipees.
The Washington varalty streaked
over the gruelling three-mile course
In IS minutes, 50.4 seconds compared
with the old mark of 18:33.4 bung
up by the Huskies In 1934.
Csllfornla. trailing 12 seconds be
hind the northerners In 10:08, slso
was well under the record, giving
Coach Ky Ebrlght good reason to
believe he may have another na
tional championship crew by the
time the Poughkeepsie regatta rolla
around In June.
Washington won the Junlsr-varslty
three-mile event In 16:14.3. to cut a
big slice off the former mark of
17:14.6 established by California In
1032. The Bears trailed along In
10:35.1.
In the two-mile skirmish, the
Husky frosh knocked down the early
choppy waves In the unbelievable
time of 10:34.8. This was snnounced
as official but four watches on the
press boat caught the Washington
boys around 10:40. California time
was announced a 10:31.4.
The old record made by the Hua
klea In 1034 waa 11:344.
And then compare these figures
with the records established years
ago over the Leschl-to-Madrona
course and you'll havs an Idea how
faat the powerful crew were sailing
today. Th old varsity figure was
19:68, made in 1932; Junlor-varslty
16:36.2 In 1036, and the freshman
10.44.4 In 1036. All mere established
by Waahlngton.

GOLD HILL PRIDE
Pete Belcaatro'a championship belt,
representing supremacy in the Junior
heavyweight division of wrestling on
the Pacific coast, Is today reposing
in the strongbox of the Mall Tribune,
ready to go on display at the Armory
tomorrow night when Prince Mlhala
kls of Arabia and Pranxle Peck of
San Francisco tangle to see who
meets Bel cast ro next week. Belcastro
released the belt to Promoter Mack
Lillard on Friday and wilt defend It
against the winner of tomorrow's
bout on the following Monday,
Both of tb combatants tomorrow
will have a Medford following. Each
holda a win over the champion.
Whether Peck, whose rugged phy
sique has weathered the storms of
many versatile attack, will be able
to turn bade the Prince's two great
holda the camel look and the dragon
scissors seems to depend strongly on
how soon he geia his skull cracking
head lock and how tenaciously he
hangs onto It.
In six weeks of grappling here.
MlhalaXla has won every- match, de
pending not alone on those two grips,
but using them u the coup de grace
In each Instance. All of Peck's wins,
similarly, have come through the use
of the head lock. The bout has ere- i
a tod much Interest.
The middle event bring together
two All -American football players for
the first time In a Medford ring
when Oeorge "Wildcat" Wilson, ex
Washington flash, tangles with Dan
ny Savlch of Utah, in an Australian
ayetm match. More flying tackles
are expected In this event than are
usually seen In an Army -Not re Dame
football game. Wilson's slashing aon-
nenberga are considered more dang
erous than Savlch 'a thrusts, but the
scrappy Rocky Mountain conference
guard is considered faster, and has
a command of more fancy grips.'
Bob Kenaaton, erstwhile "mad mar
ine" of Oold Hill whose erratic squab
bling with the referee, flights out
side the ropes to tie h)s shoes when
they needed no tieing, and boister
ous delight In drumming on an op
ponents paunch earned him the hat
red of most local fans, returns to
mix with Frank Taylor, towering
Ohio State athlete. In the opener.
While on a tour of southern Cali

of new wrestling skill. In hia former
matches here he depended almost en
tirely on his "Oold Hill crab" hold.
a reverse kneellng-headlock.. He has
evolved several Improvements on that
hold and now also employs a flying
drop kick and several tricky leg
holds.
The match may be the last here
for Kenaaton before he starts east
on a wrestling tour, although Pro
moter Mack Lillard is making an at
tempt to secure him for several ap
pearances. Chester Joe Luchexl, 145. Oregon

event on the card at the Elks' tem

slugged It out for three rounds and
were given a draw, and the crowd
has demanded they be put back to
