FISHING IS BETTER
AS WATER CLEARS
The following recreational bulletin
was issued today by Karl L. Janoueb.
supervisor of the Rogue River na
tlonal loiest:
"The warm weatber and melting
snow havs maintained a general blgb
level of water In all streams during
the past week. Some flab have been
caught, but In general flahlng hae
been only fair. In the middle lorn
ot the Applegate below Elliott creek
and the Little Applegate the water
Is muddy. However, tributaries, par
tlcularly Carberry creek, are clear
and should be fair.
"In Evans, Trail and Elk creeks
teelhead are reported to be run
ning. Those streams are fairly clear.
The main Rogue river la high and
cloudy. Two salmon were caught be
low the Savage Rapids dam Wednes
day. The run Is expected to Increase
considerably by Sunday, Conditions
remain about the same In the upper
branches of the Rogue with the
water high but fairly clear. In Big
Butte the water la still cloudy but
clearing. The amaller branches of
Big Butte are clear. Little Butte
creek has continued high during the
week but has dropped some during
the past few days.
"Lake conditions remain about the
same. Squaw lakea are open but
the other lakea are frozen over except
J1sh lake. In which a small area of
open water was reported near the
outlet. The enow has been melting
very rapidly at Plan lake and, accord
ing to last reports, there was only
an average of two feet of snow re
maining. No catches have been re
ported aa taken on flies. Night crawl
era and eggs will probably be essen
tial during the week end.
"Road conditions have improved
somewhat but no new territory has
been opened up by the melting
anows. In the Applegate territory all
roads, with the exception of those
at the higher elevations which are
closed by snow, are in good condi
tion. Last week the Evans creek
road waa reported open to the mouth
of Salt creek. It has been learned
since that the state has closed this
road at the CCO camp at the mouth
of the weat fork of Evans creek and
no travel by cara la possible above
that point. The Butte Falls-Lake of
the Wooda road la closed by snow
seven miles thla side of Pish lake.
