AHCHYTAS AND THE WOODEN DOVE

OUR CENTURIES before llie Christian era, a learned Italian mathematician of
Tarranlo (then Tarenlum), called Arehytas, launched the first man-made, flying
machine, a huge wooden dove. The story wa recorded by Aulus Celliu, who
first of A SertCS by ALFRED OWLES related that apectatoro attrihuled the motive force of the dove to an occult apirit.
The legend peminted, hut it is more probable that wine Aichytas, not averse ta an
aura of mystery, nevertheless used spring power. x
