Medford Church of the Kaaarene
will celebrate Sunday, at the 11
o'clock morning hour, the fourteenth
anniversary of Its organisation.
From the time of Its founding the
organisation has made a steady
growth. During the past 31 months
the church has received Into mem
bership something over 80 new com
municants. Expansion of the church numerl.
rally has made It necessary to pro
vide larger quarters. At present l
new church protect Is under con
etructlon at the corner of Holly and
First street, opposite the Junior
high scheol. There will be two audi
toriums on the first floor,' both of
which may be thrown together, with
a main auditorium seating approxl
mstely 300, and the Sunday school
and young people's unit seating ap
proximately the same number.

When the plant Is completed there
will be 20 Sunday school rooms,

MEXICO CITY, March 37. The
worst aviation disaster in the history
of Mexico bringing death to 14 per
sons, amid lofty volcanic peaks was
being Investigated by authorities to
day. 51x women and eight men were kill
ed when a specially chartered plane
crashed yesterday between the snow
capped summits of Popocstepetl and
Ixtacdhuatl, 30 miles from Mexico
City.
In life, the victims had ranged In
rank from European aristocracy to a
Costa Rlcan steward. But author

A summary of current tax collec-
tlona for the years 1934. 1936 and
1S36 shows collections for this yesr
to date have gained 6 percent over
last year and 10 percent over 1934,
according to figures compiled by the
tax collection department ol tne sner

Wednesday totaled $471,096.25. or ap
proximately 36 percent of the total
of $1,387,889.60 to be collected.

In 1934. for a corresponding period,
the collections amounted to $398,
886.90, or approximately 36 percent of
the total to be collected amounting
to $1,398,831.59.

ably next week. If the motion Is
denied an appeal Is not expected be
cause Stringer Is penniless.

A "personal belter that Governor
Harold G. Hoffman will not grant
Bruno Richard Hauptmann a further
reprieve waa expressed today by Arch
W. Loney, PWA engineer who yester
day suggested a further delay In the
case.
After accompanying the governor
In an Inspection of the house where
the carpenter lived before his arrest
for the Lindbergh kidnaping, Loney
said on return here he did not "know
anything about the man's guilt or
innocence but there are some dis
crepancies in the evidence about the
kidnap ladder."
He flrat made public a year ago
his contention that the ladder was
not conclusive evidence of Haupt
mann's guilt.

A chicken dinner in honor of the
M CCO enroUees who are to return
to the east for discharge Sunday was
served at Camp Preacott last night,
Officers participated In the farewell
party and O. P. West, educational ad
vlser, acted as master of ceremonels.
A program was presented by camp
entertainers after the dinner. Capt.
Roes K. Wilson, company commander,
addressed the assemblage and
pressed hla gratitude for the co-operative
spirit shown by the men dur
ing their encampment at Prescott.
Prescott waa first occupied by tne
COO last fall, the present company
having then been transferred from
Emigrant Springs near Meacham.
The camp was a newly constructed
unit for the CCC organization.

Plans for the scheduled track
meet between the Kerby and Med
ford high schools, which was to have
been run at Kerby this afternoon,
were halted by an epidemic of
measles In the mountain town. It waa
announced.
With his charges promised a meet.
Coach Bowerman hastily signed the
Camp Oregon Caves CCC track
squad, but was unable to arrange
meet before Saturday, so tomorrow
afternoon the two groups tangle on
the Medford field.
Camp Oregon Cavea Is said to
have an excellent team, with wins
over Kerby and Crescent City, Cal.,
already this year.
At the same time, Bowerman ar
ranged a meet to be run against the
Grants Pa high school there a week
from today. The strength of the CU
mate City squad is an unknown fac
tor, and the game Is expected to
serve as a measuring stick in placing
the Tigers In their proper niche In
southern Oregon track. With that
sport an important one in Grants
Pass, the Cavemen usually have one
of the strongest teams In this part
of the state.

TO LICENSE DOGS
The Jackson county dog control
board today Issued an announcement
tto the effect that It would pay no
compensation for the loss of sheep or
goats killed by dogs to owners or un
licensed dogs. In esses where sheep
or goat owners have dogs that have
1936 dog tagea. the dog control
board feela that no compensation Is
due them. It was msde plain.
Through the efficiency of the dog
control board In collecting the 1936
dog licenses, and through the ellml
nation of many sheep killing dogs In
Jackson county, the compensation for
the loss of sheep or gosta through
the ravages of dogs waa raised from
$2 to $3.50. In legitimate cases, the
bulletin states.
Tha co-operation of sheep men to
enforce the atste dog tax law wnicn
waa enacted for their benefit will
greatly assist the control board and
work out for the benefit of sheep
and goat owners in the present year,
the bulletin concludes.
