denied be received funds from other
sources, and In reply to s question
said he had no funds In any safety
deposit box.
He said information aa to the total
of expense money he received was
being compiled but was not ready.
Sullivan asked If this money was
velvet." The witness said he did not
deal In such terms.
Clements said the apartment oc
cupied by himself and Dr. Townsend
was paid for by the Old Age Revolv
ing Pension, Ltd. This Included maid
hire and some other Incidentals. ,
Travel Expenses Paid
All traveling expenses, the witness
said, also were paid by the organiza

as 1,475. He said It was the total
received by his wife. .
The apartment rent, Clements said

to September 30, 1935.
Sarcasm Develops
. The counsel became sarcastic as he
read scores of Items on an extensive
expense account of Clements. The
witness, too, was sharp In his comments.
The total of this account was
9833.19. It covered a period of August
2, to August 27, 1935,
Clements made his estimate after
telling James R. Sullivan, committee
counsel, he could not give definite
figures without cheesing bank ac
counts In state areas and regional
headquarters.
There were only a score, or more.
of spectators in the committee room
when the hearing opened as con
trasted with the large crowd at yes
' te relay's Initial session.
A chart submitted by Clements
showed a cash total of 9666,000 for
the last three months of 1935. But
he explained It was not all receipts
and that some of the total re pre -,
sented credits,,., disbursements . and
" other transactions and was "not a
fair picture" of revenue for the per

Told To Bring Records
Representative Hoffman (R., Mich.)
committee member, suggested ad
journment until Clements could pro
vide the financial records requested.
"You were told to bring these rec
ords," Sullivan told Clement
"I beg your pardon," Clements re
plied. "I was not told to bring rec
ords of that nature."
"If you read your subpoena you
would see all financial records were
requested," Sullivan said.
Clements then went Into an ex

practices which the committee Indi

Stale for Women s Hair II
NEW YORK, March 27. ( AP) A
"lightning part" that alg sags up
one's head was acclaimed today as
a clever new way for women to dress
their hair.
"It's beautiful," said beauty shop
owners who saw the "lightning part"
Introduced last night at their1 in
ternational convention. Among 30
advance summer modes of hairdresses
was purple-tinted hair studded with
real violets.
One parting was diagonal, ending
behind the right ear. Then there
was the double part parallel lines
going straight back, or little crescents
front and back.
A new trick for brunettes was the
"star-dust" coiffure. sprirJtNM with
silver flakes.
The beauticians also liked a silver
'jid gold lacquered halrdress for eve
ning, a gold spun "transformation"
and a bead with the curls laid like
a series of rose petals.
Tinted hair green, blue and
orchid Is still good for "exotic
types," said the hairdressers, and the
"senorita type" of woman should
wear long hair.
For everyone else bobbed hair,
worn flatter, and a bit less curly.
Blondes, the stylists agreed, "arc
not going over so big."
