USKA CONVICTION
IN KIDNAPING PLOT
UPHELD BY COURT

Ter attorney, for conspiracy In the
kidnaping oj Charles p. urachal, Ok-
laboroa oil millionaire, waa upheld
today by the lederal circuit court oX
a-p peals.
Laska, nervous and well groomed,
waa attorney (or Albert L. Bates, who
with Oeorge (Machine Oun) Kelly
and others kidnaped urachal and
held him for ransom.
The Denver attorney was accused
at accepting part of the Urschel ran
aom from Bates. Laska contended It
waa a legal fee.
It was the first case of It kind
In federal court In which the gov.
mment attempted to prosecute an
attorney who represented a convict
ed kidnaper or gangster.
Laska waa sentenced to serve ten
years in federal prison. Leasts' only
chance of avoiding his federal prison
sentence now lies In an appeal to the
United States supreme court.
The arrest of Laska on a charge
of complicity In the a0O.O0O Urschel
kidnaping created a sensation In
Denver.
Four other persona were Indicted
In the case, Mrs. Clara Feldman,
wife of Dates; her son, Edward, and
her brother-in-law, Alvln Scott, and
Jamea C. Mathers, Oklahoma City
attorney. The first three pleaded
guilty and were freed on probation
after they testified for the prosecution.

The convention opens Thursday
evening and concludes Sunday eve
' nlng. All young people are Invited
to attend. All main sessions will be
