dinner at the home of his son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. 3. R.
Hoffman, at which Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Hoffman of Steamboat also were
guests. The aged man lived In Ger
many until he was lo, when he came
to California to live with relatives.
His friends spesk of him as being
"quite a boy" In consideration of Ms
good health and ability to cut wood,
build fences, .and do other kinds of
heavy labor. Mrs. Jordan left Sun
day for Weed, where all, will epend a
few dayst before returning to her
home.
Mrs. Mcrrlam Worthlngton of San
Francisco, who Is making an extend
ed visit here, spent the week end In
Ashland as a guest of her sister. Mrs.

Lester Smith, employed for a
number of years In the county engi
neer's office at Medford, left the
first part of the month for Vuma,
Aria., where ha has employment as
timekeeper for a construction com
pany working in connection with
the All-Amerlcan canal being dug
there. Mr. Smith stated tn a letter
to his parents here, Mr. and Mr,.
Ed Smith, that the thermometer
reached 101 degrees soon after bis
arrival there. Mrs. Smith may Join
her huaband later.
Mrs. J. O. Ayrea and daughter,
Mary, arrived by train from Port
land Saturday to spend the week end
