ing broadcast from Crater Lake na
tional park, bringing the ground oov.

Golden Goes North Eugene C
Golden, educational coordinator of
Medford CCC district, left today on a
trip to Portland. En route he will
confer with executives of schools aud
colleges regarding plans for awarding
the scholarships that have been made
available for CCO enrol lees of this
district.
Plan Tennis Courts Plsns were
being made today for construction of
two tennis courts by CCC men at the
fairgrounds where headquarters de
tachment Is encamped. The courts
are to be utilized by enrollees. Cap..

GIVEN CIVIL POST
William G. Meyers, son of Mr. and
Mrs. O. E. G. Meyers of 422 Park ave
nue, today was appointed civilian ste
nographer In the adjutant's office at
Medford district COO headquarter
after receiving an honorable discharge
from the three-C organization. He re
places Lloyd Arant of Ashland who re
signed a fortnight ago to accept
civil service position In Portland.
Meyers, who received his appoint
ment from Maj. General George R
Owens, district commander, waa ele
vated from the CCC ranks. He had
been serving as clerk at headquarters
and was given a trial at the steno
graphic position when Arant resigned.
Meyers was graduated from Medford
high school In 1934. He took a post
graduate course the following year
and Joined the CCC in June. 1935. He
took a commercial course, including
typing and shorthand, at the high
school.

Final arrangements lor a big dollar
day community sale Friday and Satur
day were made at a meeting of Med
ford retail merchants In the Jackson
County Chamber of Commerce laat
night.
Plans for the community bargain
event were first made about a month
ago and stocks of new spring mer
chandlse have been received for the
special dollar sales, C. A. Meeker,
chairman of the committee In charge,
brought out. It la the merchants' aim
to put on one of the greatest bargain
events the city has ever known,
emphasized.
Talks on cooperative selling events
were given at the meeting by Mr.
Meeker. John Moffatt, H. L. Brown,
W. S. Bolger, W. A. Gates and A. H
Bsnwell. The meeting- also discussed
the organizational set-up of the re
tall merchant bureau of the Cham
ber of commerce . C. D. Bean, bureau
chairman, presided.

Flurries of fine snow fell over west
ern Oregon today, while half an inch
to an inch of snow waa deposited In
eastern Oregon. Most of the snow
melted rapidly.
Central Oregon experienced clear.
cold weather. The minimum tem
perature at Bend early today waa 16
degrees. A biting wind blew at Kla
math Falls.
An Inch of snow fell at Baker dur
ing the night, and half an Inch at
La Grande melted soon.
Snow. sun. rain, hall and mists
alternated at Grants Pass. The snow
fall was scant.
An Inch of fresh snow waa reported
on the summits of the Greensprlnga
and Slsklyous highways. None fell
on the Sexton mountain and Oregon
Caves highways.
TRAIN TO TAKE
CCC IN EAST
The first troop trarn of the season
taking COG enrolleea back to the eaat
for discharge was scheduled to leave
from Marahfield at 7 o'clock tonight.
The train will stop for additional men
at Klamath Falls whence It will de
part at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning.
The men, all from the Sth corpB
area, will be discharged at Fort Knox,
Ky. They are enrolleea who have de
elded not to re -enroll at the end of
their present term of aervioe. They are
to be replaced soon by new enrolleea
from the Sth corps area, headquarters
here said.
The group going east consists of 62
enrolleea from Company 973, Camp
Humbug Mountain: 74 from Company
3523. Agness; 67 from Company 044.
Tule Lake; 91 from Company 557.
Bonanza; and 71 from Company 663,
Klamath.
Lieut. Walter J. Bubolta, Rand, la
train commander; Lieut. Francis O-
Neer, McKlnley, mesa officer; and
Capt. Audley O. Joalyn. Bradford,
train surgeon. The officers will return
for duty in the Medford district.
