Freak Grapw Riley Myers, who
owns a three-acre vineyard near Cen
tral Point was In the Mall Tribune
office today displaying several bunch
es of grapes, left on his vines last
year, which boasted what appeared to
be huckleberries growing on the same
clusters. The phenomenon appears
each year, according to Mr. Myers.
Drills Tonight Compsny A and

ion, 166th Infantry will hold their
regular weekly drills In the Medford
armory at 8 o'clock tonight. There are
three vacancies In Company A which
the officers are desirous of filling be
fore March 31 after which date no
recruit will be accepted who has not
had previous military experience..
COUNCIL 10 VIEW
An ordinance tightening the regu
lation of unlicensed dogs Is scheduled
to come before the council at Its reg
ular semi-monthly meeting In city
hall at 7:30 tonight. The measure.
It la understood, will provide a pen
alty for owners who fall to procure
licenses for their dogs.
An ordinance relating to civil serv
ice for Medford firemen will also
come before the council tonight. At
the special election January 31 ths
voters approved civil service for fire
men and the ordinance Is designed to
carry out the plan.
It was said to be probable that the
council would also consider an ord
inance giving the city greater au
thority In compelling property owners
to connect their homes with sanitary
sewer lines.
A report regarding plans for re
surfacing city streets Is also to be
sxibmltted to the council.
CRATER SNOW IS
HIGH IN WATER
Analyses of snow In Crater lake na
tional park show an exceptionally
high water content for this time of
year. It is disclosed In a tabulation
submitted today to David H. Can
field, superintendent.
Six tests made of snow at Annie
Spring showed a water content rang
ing from 41 to 48 percent. The anew
ranged in depth from 101 to 120
Inches.
At government camp three tests
were made In snow from 133 to 137
Inches deep. The water content
ranged from 40 to 46 percent.
The snow In the whole park la now
equivalent to about 39S.8tK acre feet
of water. It was calculated by J. Car
lisle Crouch, chief ranger.
The water content of snow la of
paramount Importance as a source
of supply for Irrigation reservoirs. It
was explained.

The Columbia motion picture crew
which has been filming scenes for a
new aviation drama here left muni
cipal airport for Hollywood at 10
o'clock this morning.
For a week the men engaged In
filming daring exploits In the air for
"Devil's Squadron." a drama of test
pilots starring Richard Dlx and
Karen Morley.
Before departing this morning the
men expressed their appreciation of
Medford's hospitality and declared
they would remember the Rogue
River valley whenever air scenes are
required for a picture. They were
especially grateful for the service ex
tended them at the airport where
most of the scenes were taken and
where they kept their three planes.

of directors yesterday noon. Presi
dent Prank J. Van Dyke wa author
ised to appoint a committee to study
various phases of the plan.
Favored among the suggested sites
was that of on or near the Ptsga,
those present indicating a preference
for headquarters near or adjacent to
advantages of the city, including
Llthla Park. Among the proposed
plans was that of erecting a new
building In the center of the Plaza
area, with the aid of the city.
MOON ESTABLISHES
DETECTIVE AGENCY
Announcement has been made by
L. I. Moon, member of the Ashland
police department, that he will open
a private detective agency, to be
known as the "Moon Detective Agen
cy," in Klamath Palls April I. Moon
was recently Investigator for the In
ternal revenue service.
Moon expects to place representa
tives of his new agency in other
southern Oregon cities.

Angeles chamber of commerce a
month ago the "border patrol" of Los
Angelea police set up to keep undesir
able itinerant out of California was
a violation of United States citizens'
constitutional rights.
Webb did not make public his legal
opinion In tha matter at the time,
but phrased It privately In a letter to
Arthur a. Arnold, secretary of the
Los Angelea chamber of commerce.
Instead of releasing It aa an official
opinion.
"As between states, rights of clti
eena to ingress and egress has gener
ally been recognized and upheld."
Webb declared, adding that full rec
ognition of this right waa guaranteed

The practice of appointing Los An

TOLD OF TRAGEDY
News concerning the murder of
Alalre and Lerene Ellason. daughters
of Mr. and Mrs. Rosa Ellason, former
ly of Ashland, and the suicide of
Louis Czaba, hired man of the family,
March 14 at their home in Lethbrldge,
Canada, waa received by Ashland rela
tives Sunday morning.
The telegram telling of the tragedy
waa received by Mr. and Mrs. Qeorge
N. Kramer. Mrs. Kramer is a sister
of Rosa Ellason. Ashland relatives
stated that Czaba had been with the
family eight yeara, and waa trusted
completely. He allegedly murdered
the girls, set fire to the new home
and Immense barn Just completed,
and committed suicide.
Mrs. Ellason is the daughter of
Mrs, O. T. Payne of Ashland and she
and her son spent the past summer
at the Payne home, visiting a num
ber of other relatives and friends.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Ellason were reared
and attended school In Ashland, and
have made numerous visits to south
ern Oregon since taking up their resi
dence In Canada.
A second telegram stated that the
funeral and Interment would be In
Lethorldge. Mrs. Kramer and Larz
Ellason, brother of the murdered girls'
father; Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Oscar
Rlckll, of Roseburg, sister of Mr. Ella
son, left yesterday for Canada.
