Conger chapel at p. m. Saturday

tained today a 40-to-l "write-in" of
President Roosevelt by voters of Har
ris county.

Democratic primary and returns from
13 of the 14 precincts gave the presi
dent 1,434 votes to 35 for his persist
ent critic, Gov. Eugene Talmadge.
Roosevelt's name waa the only one
printed on the ballot, but Just above
It was a notice to the voters: "If not
for Roosevelt, write In preference."
Harris Is an agrlcultuarl county on
the western border of the state, near
Warm Springs, Roosevelt's Georgia
hobe, yet has been regarded as a
stronghold for Talmadge.

tween the Sierra Nevada mountains

These are the tlava bear and the
lava sheep. Both have become ex
tinct. Scientists are convinced that
at the time of the early settlement
of California they actually existed,
and they hope not only to establish
this definitely but to find enough
bones of the extinct animals to re
construct skeletons and establish
their relations with other species of
bear and sheep In surrounding
mountains.
All Inhabitants of the country
have been asked to send In any
existing relics they may have of such
animals, and eye-witness accounts of
having actually imn them.

testines shored Into his left lung,
was recovering here today from
a delicate operation to correctly
place the organs.
Fascia, or connective ' tissue

aligning the misplaced organs by
the surgeon, whose name waa not
revealed.
The baby, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leander Roethler. could breathe
with but one lung before the
operation, because the displace
ment had collapsed the other.
His mother thought he had In
fluenza when she took him to a
hospital where X-ray pictures re
vealed the unique condition.

butts of Montmartre, with doors loose
on their binges, the small porch fall
ing Into disrepair, lives Prance's great
Impressionist painter, Suzanne Vala
don. Suzanne Valadon la a brunette with
horn rimmed glasses. Once a very
popular model In the Latin quarter,
she ssys with pride, "Men used to
say my paintings were good because
I was young and pretty, but now they
say so because It Is the truth"
"The Eccentric" as she was called
in the Latin quarter, bad a varied
and romantic life. A foundling, she
was brought up by peasants and when
very young Joined a circus troupe.
Shortly afterward Degas, noted French
painter, asked the pretty little circus
performer to pose for htm, soon dis
covering that hts model had much
talent herself. Degas taught her and
influenced her work In the early days.
Suzsnne Vsladon had already had
considerable success at 15 when her
first and only child, Maurice Utrlllo,

Latin quarter. Michel Utrlllo, a Span
ish admirer of Suzanne Valadon,
adopted the child.
The mother lorced the boy to paint
and he soon became as famous as his

never decreased.
