Leonard Receives Carload of Frigidaires
VIENNA (UP) The tomb of St.
Josaphat. a Roman Catholic saint.
In Vlenna'a St. Barbara church, has
bn pillaged.
The glass shrine on the altar, con
taining the relics of the saint, was
broken by burglara. and a heavy
golden chain with a cross, the pious
donation of Archduke William, was
stolen.
Josaphat was a Catholic Baslllan
monk who became archbishop ol
Polock, eastern Poland, in the early
17th century.
In 1623 he was killed by rival
Russian Pravoslavlan priests In a
fight between Catholic Ukranlans
and Pravoalav Russians.
The tomb of Josaphat. who was
beatified 20 yeara after his death
and subsequently canonized, soon
became the center of pilgrimage lor
Romsn Catholic Ukranlans.
During the war between Sweden
and Russia In the late nth century,
which largely was fought In that re
gion, the bones of the saint had
frequently to change their resting
place to thwart thieves and dese
crators. After the war they were restored
to their original shrine In Polock,
but did not remain there long.
When Czar Peter the Great, In
his efforts to auppress an uprising of
the Ukranlans. threatened to bum
the relics of their national saint, a
Prince Radzlwlll secretly transferred
them In 1705 to Blala, where he
founded a Baslllan monastery and
a, church In honor of the saint.
There they rested for more ths-n
century and a half In a beauti
ful silver coffin under the main
altar. . ,h
The coffin disappeared during tne
Polish uprising against the raara in
the early 60s of the last century-
In 1017 when the district waa oc
cupied by Austrian troops an old
peasant appeared before the Aus
trian commander and told him that
the saint's bones had been Immured
under the Blala church.
There they were found, but with
out the silver casket, and Emperor
Charles had them transferred to et.
Barbara's church In Vienna.

Plans for a aeries of social events,
active participation in the presiden
tial campaign and methods of rais
ing funds painlessly weie adopted ten
tatively at a meeting of the Young
Democratic club of Jackson county at
headquarters last night. Pinal ap
proval of the outlined program was
deferred to give members an oppor
tunity to consider them at leisure and
to offer suggestions or amendments
at the next meeting.
Final plans were made for the pub
lic presentation of a one-act play
next Thursday night. It was voted to
Include the playlet as part of a regu
lar meeting so that the public might
be given a picture of the business that
Is carried on by the young Democrats.
At the business-meeting the sea
son's program of activities will prob
ably be outlined, officers indicated,
and one or two speakers will give edu
cational talks on some phase of social
work being carried on by the Roose
velt administration. The playlet will
conclude the evening's program
The meeting and play, to which
everyone is invited, will be held in St.
Mark's guild hall at North Ookdile
avenue and Ptfth street. A rehearsal
of the playlet will be held In the hall
at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
, Considerable enthusiasm was shown
by the 'members last night In freely
discussing future plans. A report by
Miss Jeanne Fabrlck, treasurer and
chairman of the membership commit
tee, showed that both funds and
members were increasing.
In the absence of Jack Murray, pres
ident, Miss Marjorle Kelly, vice pres
ident, presided.

163 PLANES USE
AiRPORT IN MONTH
Medford municipal airport waa used
by 163 planes in February. It waa
shown by a report compiled today by
Tom Culbertson. manager.
Twenty-seven were United States
army ships, including pursuit, attack,
observation and bombing planes.
Some of the pursuit planes were
housed in the hangar for more than
a week while the pllota waited J or
clear weather In California.
Ten were privates -owned planes
and ten were owned by companies
which use the arwaya for fast travel.
One hundred and sixteen were mail
passenger ships operated on regular
schedules by United Air jAna.

Tomatoes
There's hardly a backyard gar
den from the Great Lakes to the
Rio Grande that would be com
plete without tomatoes once
called "love apples" and supposed
to be very bad for folks until that
melancholy myth was exploded. In
order to have tomatoes, it's neces
sary either to sow the seeds In the
house or In a hotbed or buy plants
from some commercial grower.
Seeds come up In eight or ten days
and seedlings usually are ready for
transplanting in two weeks. Once
transplanted, the stems should be
tied to stakes to keep them alive
and upright and the fruit off the
ground. A stake an Inch and a
half in diameter and four to five
feet long will answer. Planting
season varies from early March in
the far south to early June in the
far north.

PLAY TUESDAY EVENING
The Future Craftsmen will sponsor
a play entitled "Fuller's Fortune," to
be presented at the high school au
ditorium Tuesday, March 10, at 8 p.
m. The play is a three-act comedy
written by C. E. Wilcox.
Judge Fuller, having developed a
sick complex, was bothered about the
disposition of his property. With no
children and no close relatives, he
hesitated to leave his fortune to dis
tant relatives he had never seen. He
wired a few he had discovered, that
Judge Fuller had died and if Interest
ed In his fortune, they should appear
at his ranch house at a certain time.
With the aid of friends, he posea as
a hired man to await the arrival of
the five relatives, 1
The Judge finds it a lot of fun be
ing a dead man when he is really
alive. Action takes plate at Judge
Fuller's ranch house In Colorado.
The "Arkansas Kid" and his com
pany will furnish music between acta.

WILL GIVE TALKS
AT MEET MONDAY
A general meeting of Democrats of
Jackson county has been called for
8 o'clock next Monday night at which
time Frank Tlerney, executive secre
tary of the Democratic state central
committee, and Les Gosslln, secretary
to Gov. Charles H. Martin, will be
leading speakers. It was announced
today by Ralph Stephenson, chair
man of the county central committee.
Mr. Stephenson received a letter
from Tlerney today stating that he
and Gosslln would be here Monday.
Mr. Gosslln, a lending figure in the
development of the party In Oregon,
will speak on the general politic
outlook of the state.
An outline of the coming campaign
program will also be presented at the
meetlhg, Stephenson said.
"Every democrat in the county, the
young democrats as well as the old
democrats, should attend this meet
ing." Stephenson said. "Gosslln is a
forceful speaker, and he represents
the spirit of progress that we should
all have Instilled into our minds.
Through hard wark, he has become
secretary to Governor Martin and has
made good at his Job. Every young
democrat should attend the meeting
by all means."
Gosslln has also been prominently
mentioned as a possible candidate for
governor on the democratic ticket two
years from now, in case Governor
Martin declines to run again.
Monday's meeting will be held at
Democratic headquarters, 133 West
Main street.
