At Portland Meeting S. H. Thomas
left by motor this morning for Port
land to attend a meeting of the State
Industrial Accident commission to
morrow. Mr. Thomas was accom
panied by Mrs. Thomas and their
daughter Claire. They expect to re
turn to Medford Friday.
To Leave CCC Capt Oscar M.
Steel, farmer commanding officer of
Camp Clear Lake, left today for head
quarters of the 7th corps area, Ne
braska, where he will be mustered out
of the CCC service. He plans to re-1
turn to civilian life and has already I
tendered his resignation.
Home for Rest Miss Amy Elliott
arrived this morning from Eugene,
where she Is a student at the Uni
versity of Oregon, to spend several
days at her home here for a rest,
she having been 111 for the past ten
days. She plans to return to col
lege In a short time.
Minstrel Rehearsal Dress rehearsal
for the minstrel show to be presented
in K. P. hall Thursday night by the
auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles will be held at 7:30 tomorrow
night in the lodgs roms on West
Main street. As this Is the final re-
herssl, all members of the cast were
urged to be present.
Checks Safety Work Guy B. John
son, safety engineer of the U. S. re
gional forester's office in Portland,
arrived here today to confer with
Karl L. Janouch, supervisor of the
Rogue River national forest. After
the conference he left with William
Jones, construction superintendent,
for the CCC camp at Applegate where
he was to Inspect the safety pro
visions under which the enrollees
work, ' .
Equipment Overhaul All Automo
tive equipment of the Rogue River
national forest la being completely
overhauled At the warehouse on Mc
Andrews road. Twenty-four mt-n
were aastgned to the work today by
WPA. augmenting the forest service
crew of six. The work Is being done
under direction of Grant Neeley, sup
ervising mechanic. The equipment,
consisting of 78 trucks and 17 trac
tors, will also be painted.

Situation In the poultry market
continued strong despite the ap
proaching start of the Lenten season.
Prlcea were firmly held for live Birds
of all sorts, especlslly light Leghorns.
Trade In country killed meat con
tinued to show a firm tone. Hoga
were fairly steady. A good demand
was showing for lambs around ex
treme figures.

screen, but to take up the old crave

ONell's "Candida" will be presented
by Southern Oregon Normal school
players Thusrday evening at the Cen
tral Point Orange hall at 8 o'clock.
The play, under the direction of An
gus I. Bowmer, has proved very popu
lar with southern Oregon audiences.
Thursday's performance being the
first time it has been presented In
the Medford vicinity.
Heading the cast will be Miss Mar
Jorle McNair of Ashland, wtio has al
ternated with Miss Helen Edmlston
of Medford In portraying the title
role. Others of the cast are: Wayne
8mlth, as Rev. James Mavor Morrell;
Ford Hummetl, as Eugene March
banks; Roberta Nourse, as Miss Pros
erpine Oarnett; Ivan Nye, as Alexan
der Mill; and John Harr. as Mr. Bur

innovation seeming to be much ap

the Rev. Thomas McClary. 58. one of
the last of the "circuit riders" of the
Methodist church.
Mr. McClary preached for 60 years
