At one of the most successful
snnual meetings In tbe history oi
Crater. Lake Area council of the
Boy Scouts held yesterday at the
Hotel Medford, Larry Schade was
re-elected president of the council
for the fourth consecutive time.
The nominating committee, headed
by L. N. Lorenzen, nominated three
vice presidents for the first time
In the history of the area. Those
nominated were a, Howard Grover
of Grants Pass; Lewis N. Lorenzen
of Mt. Shasta. California, and Dr.
Walter Red ford of the Southern
Oregon Normal school In Ashland,
who was also appointed chairman
of the leadership and training com
mittee. All were elected unani
mously. "
R. E. McElhose was re-elected
commissioner and Eugene Thorndlke
re-elected treasurer. President
Schade made the following appoint
ments for 1936: John Fuller, court
of honor chairman; M. N. Hogan.
civic servloe chairman; George Lut
trell, chairman of the educational
publicity committee; Eugene Thorn
dike, head of the finance commit
tee; Seth Bullls. chairman of the
health and safety committee; W.
J. Mover, Grants Pass, chairman of
the troop organization committee,
and A. E. Angel, Weed. California,
bead of the new council committee
on reading.

tis of Portland was In charge of
the business conference, which also
Included the reading of reports. Re
ports made Included: court of honor
for 1835, Judge J. Fuller; camping,
L. D. Jones; civic service, M. N.
Hogan; finance, Fred L. Heath, Sr.;
health and safety. Seth Bullls;
troop organization, Council Commis
sioner Richard E. McElhose; council
treasury, Eugene Thorndike.
Group conferences were held
throughout the afternoon, and plans
outlined for the coming year. While
these conferences were In session
a group of about 40 ladles, here
with their husbands from the en
tire area, were guest of George
Hunt at the Craterlan theatre.
Don Newbury was toastmaster at
the banquet In the main dining
room, attended by over 100 scouters.
The council court of honor, with
Judge John H. Fuller as chairman,
made the coveted Eagle Scout award
to Scout Jack Heyland, who with
S3 merit badges Instead of the
necessary 31, was adjudged one of
the best fitted for that honor In
the history of local scouting. The
presentation was made by President
Schade. M. N. Hogan sponsored the
Scout, who la a member of troop 8.
Heyland's was the first Eagle pre
sentation In six months In this
area. The court presented an Eagle
Mother's pin to Mrs. Heyland.
Dr. Redford delivered the main
address of the day, "The Boy Scout
Oath and Law As a Code of Ethics,
a Mode of Living Not Only For
Boys, But For Adults."
At the meeting Irvln P. Beesley,
new Crater Lake council executive,
was Introduced for the first tttne.
Dinner music was furnished by
a five-piece orchestra, which also
accompanied Miss LaMerle Beck In
several vocal numbers.
Flag presentation before and after
the conference was made by Dick
Roberts, five year veteran Eagle
scout, assisted by a uniformed group
of scouts who attended the nat
ional Jamboree last year.

Lions To Entertain
With Ladies Night
Ladles of the Lions club will b
honored tomorrow evening when the
Llona entertain with a "Ladles'
Night" at St. Mark', guild ball.
The evening's entertainment will
consist or dinner and dancing, and
cards for those who don't wish to
dance.
As the affair Is planned as an
old-times party, guests will come In
old-fashioned costumes. Prises will
be awarded to the best-dressed man
and the best-dressed woman.
All Lions and their lsdlea and
their Invited friends will be guests
of the evening. Very special efforts

Group Vacations
In San Francisco
Among Medfordltes recently vaca
tioning out-of-town were Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Butterfield and Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Terrell, who motor
ed down to San Francisco the early
part of last week. After spending
a few days in the bay city, the
group returned to their homes here
last Thursday.

Preceding the big meeting at the tem
ple, the past rulers will enjoy a ban
quet, probably at a downtown cafe.
The "Past Exalted Rulers" night at
the Elks lodge la one of the biggest
events of the year and a large crowd
la anticipated. Joe FUegel, chblrman
of the entertainment committee, an
nounced today that he already hs
signed two feature performances for
the evening.
Al Lyons, rubber-legged dancer,
two-voiced singer and comedian, will
furnish part of the entertainment,
and Captain Miller's troupe of singers
and musicians from COC Camp South
Fork wilt also be on the bill.
Other entertainment features and
details of the evening's program will
be announced later, Flelgel said.

Plows at Work
It was snowing hard this morn
ing on Sexton summit, the AAA re
ported. Sixteen Inches of new snow
were reported on the road to Oregon
Caves, ten lnchea on Oreensprtng
mountain and a similar amount on
the Blsklyous. Plows were at work
clearing the highways but the AAA
advised all motorists to carry chains.
About 75 persons enjoyed skiing
and tobogannlng yesterday at Union
Creek where more than 75 Inches of
snow were reported today. Few ven
tured to Crater lake national park
yesterday because of the closure of
park roads.
"Grouper Squall
Medford experienced a wintry squall
at midday yesterday. What appeared
to be sleet was whipped about by a
lusty gust of wind, but the weather
bureau described It Is "graupel," or
pebble snow, a mixture that meteor
ologists place In a category halfway
between sleet and snow.
