present a new offense against the
Freshmen, with Van Dyke remaining
at forward, but Orow paired with
him Inatead of Lewie. Lewis has been
shifted to guard, with Baker, and
with Hayes Jumping center. The new
array will present three tail men. Van
Dyke, Grow and Hayes. In the forward
wall, and will give the local team
more of an advantage In that direc
tion than Shey have enjoyed all year.
Tomorrow night the team will ahlft
back to the old lineup of Van Dyke
and Lewie at forwarda, Hayes at cen
ter, and Baker and Ettlnger at guards.
The new lineup haa not yet practiced
against a none defense auch as used
by the Cavemen.
The game tonight will atart at
o'clock, with the preliminary starting
an hour earlier. The curtain raiser
will be furnished by the Roosevelt
grade team and the Jacksonville
squad, all playera under the seventh
grsde. The hour will be shifted to
7;30 end 8:30 tomorrow night, with
the preliminary encounter to be be
tween the Lincoln and Jackson
schools of the city grade league.

been alternately calling htm. Mack
LI Hard telephoned his name In as the
one to meet Tiger Taskoff last Mon
day. The name sounded like Pettl
grew to us, so we reported It as that.
Then last week Llllard announced
from the ring that the guy's name
was not Pettlgrew. but Pettlgrow. We
stood rebuked for our slovenliness,
and changed the name In the next
report.
Now It seems, his name I
neither one of those. It's I'ctt.v

that this basketball was pretty tame

approved style and by the time the
game wss over you couldn't have told
him from a high school sophomore
except that he was getting more dis
tance with his bellows.
The next week It took the com
bined efforts of several people to
keep him from leaping up and giving
a stomp yell and a whiz-boom -bah
every time he ordered a sandwich.
Later he wrote from Los Angeles,
telling us thst BUI Bowerman ought

basketball. "They're lousy", quoth
sir Frank. "I couldn't work up
enough steam for a "fast three", let
alone a good old "stomp" yell.

an exciting first round and the crowd
was surprised when Walker tossed In

the stomach that left him unable to

Robert Barth, 180, Steamboat, and
John Dutcher, 183, Wlmer, appeared
In a three-round exhibition that con
vinced the audience that at last the
district has some heavyweight talent.
Barth was finalist In the Minneapolis
Golden Glove tournament last year,
while Dutcher holds the district
heavyweight championship at Twin
Harbors, Minn.

cisions wild Man Simmons, 163, De
tachment, In a fast bout. Newton
Marks, 125, Detachment, was knocked
out In the first round by Johnny

New Orleans bone bender.
Pettygrove Is scheduled to tangle
with "Wildcat" George Wilson, former
University of Washington footballer.
In the middle event. Neither Ken
Hollls nor Frankle Peck, the two who
will provide the fireworks In the main
event, has arrived yet, although Peck
is expected some time this evening.
Long and Pettygrove are spending
most of their time in hiking over the
southern Oregon hills.

ASHLAND. Ore., Feb. 14. (API
Southern Oregon Normal turned the
tables on the Oregon Normal school
basketball team last night, winning.
34 to 32. The Monmouth ' quintet
previously defeated the sons twice. ,
The Wolves could not quite forge
ahead but held a 6 to 6 tie early
In the game and were even-up at

checked a Monmouth rally two points
