dsughter.
"I asked him." she aald. "If he
dtdn't think It waa bad enough
carrying on with me without hav
ing relations with the child."
The defense begins presentation
of evidence tomorrow. It la expected
to call Applegate who haa repudi
ated Mrs. Crelghton's stories as
"bunk."

feet of fir. enough for 30 years of
operation, and an incidental several
million feet of choice Port Orford
cedar In southwestern Oregon.
Projected operations In the timber-
lands acquired will open a practically
new territory to foreign trade. The
timber product company, now being
organized to care for the develop
ment, will deal with the Orient, Aus
tralia and perhaps South America,
under present plans.

launch construction of a trunk line
sewer and sewage dlspoanl plant In
South Umpqua river bisecting the city
came to naught last night, when the
city council abandoned all effort to
get financial help from the pWA
and dropped the project.
The city's application for a loan
and grant of 76.000, originally ap
proved, became linked with a Joint
project Involving the local veterans'
administration facility, creating com
pllcatlona from which the city was
forced to divorce Itself. After re
sultsnt long delays, the project came
up on bids . and the lowest bid
submitted was 120,000 above the es
timated cost.
The city then applied .for an In
creased loan. In Its response the
PWA demanded much additional
data and requested further neROtla
tlons. Tills brought decision by the
council to discard the project rather
than continue In a maee of technical
procedure, with no assurance of sat
isfactory consummation of plans.
