the sward of a contract to the Doug
las Aircraft compsny of Santa Mon
ica, calif , for the purchase of 114 new
torpedo-bomber planes at a cost cf
3.636,000.
The planes, known as "TBD" type,
will be low winged monoplanes. The
navy department said they will have
markedly greater speed and consider
ably greater range as well as many
other Improved features over pre

Mrs. Wm. Lewsadder have been en
tertaining their three young grand
sons from Portland the past few
weeks, while the parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Lewsadder. were visit
ing relatives In Glendale, Calif. AH
returned to their home In Portland
this week.
Frank Denlum visited his sister,
Mrs. Brlscoll, at Butte Falls Thurs
day. ,
The Talent Grange held a public
meeting at the city hall Thursday
owning to discuss the bill that will
be voted on January 31. There was
a ahort program, but owing to the
stormy weather, the crowd was
small.
Practice Is now underway for the
first P.-T. A, entertainment of the
season. It Is planned to give this
entertainment January 30. An In
teresting short play, and variety pro
gram will be features of the eve
ning. The proceeds will be used for
the hot lunch department of the
school. Verya Montgomery, chair
man of the waya and means com
mittee, la In charge.
Mrs. Carl Baylor and daughter,
Lydla Mae, returned home from
Wildervllle, where Mrs. Baylor has
been attending her mother, Mrs.
DeVoe, who paased away Tuesday.
Mrs. DeVoe waa well known In Tal
ent and waa loved and respected by
her many acquaintances here.
Mrs. Harry Wl throe, who has been
visiting her son In Portland, re
turned home last Saturday.
Hot lunches were served Monday
and expect to continue until April.
The P.-T. A. county council met
at the Talent achcol for an all day
meeting Wednesday. Members from
nearly all the P.-T. A. units In the
county were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Huson left
Saturday morning for Salem, where
they expect to make their home.
Mrs. B. Works and daughter were
shopping In Medford Saturday.

AT CAMP APPLEGATE

at Lutaen, Minnesota (ths best
camp on the north shore) arrived
in MedfoM January 16, and con
tinued by trucks to their camp des
tination, camp Appaegate, F-41,
Ruch, Oregon. Their old camp waa
located on the shore of Lake Supe
rior In Cascade state park, 100 miles
north of Duluth, Minn. They left
during a raging bllxeard and three
feet of snow and tbe contrasting
change to green grass and sun
shine both awed and pleased them.
Tbe trip was of great educational
value and very much enjoyed by the
company. It Included 3300 mllea over
mow, plains end mountains with
such Interesting sights as the plains
ot North Dakota and Montana, the
Rocky mountains with their snow
capped peaks, Columbia river, Gla
cier National park, Grand Coulee
dam and -Mount Hood.

PLANS MEET HERE

The Oranta Paas 30-80 club was host
to delegates from neighboring cluba
at a dinner-dance Saturday night
and a district council meeting Sun
day morning at the Hotel Del Rogue.
There were 67 young men and
women attended the dinner, which
began at 7:30 p.m., Saturday. O.
Lawrence Manuel, district governor,
presided and talks were heard from
Bret Nellaon of Portland, and from
presidents of the Marahfleld, Med
ford and Klamath Falls clubs.
The Cavemen Invaded the dinner
to welcome the visitors. Following
the dinner dancing waa enjoyed with
mualo furnished by Johnny Bennett's
oroheatra.
At the business meeting Sunday
morning It was tentatively decided
to hold another council meeting lit
Medford In May and to meet In
Joint convention at Marahfleld In
August with the northern Oregon
district.

homes was for business people to
get away from crowds. Should Dls

ple would visit the lake, hotel,
