Guests at Successful
Dance Last Evening
A fairly quiet week followed the
holiday season, the principal ociai
event being the Officers' club dance
at the Hotel Medford last evening.
Largely attended by the army set
and their friends, the dance, one of
a series of monthly affairs, was en'
thuslastlcally received by guests of
the evening.
Specially Invited were members of
the Elk'ii club, other guests were
all officers on duty with the civil
ian conservation corps, reserve offi
cers, officers of the National Ouard,
retired army and navy officers, mem
bers of the technical aervlees, con
tract surgeons and educational ad
visors and their Invited civilian
friends.
Responsible for the successful ar
rangements for the affair were Capt.
Harry May, Jr., Lieut. William 8.
Olegg, Lieut. Hoy D. Craft and Lieut.
Richard Matteson.
County Council
P. T. A. to Meet
The P.-T. A. county council will
meet In Talent, Wednesday, January
16th, at 10:30 a. m. It Is desired that
the report for each unit be given by
a lay member. If no verbal report
can be given, the county president
requests a written report be sent.
The main feature of the program
will be a talk upon Intending legis
lative measuros by Senator Dunn.
A large attendance Is expected. A

This week's meeting of the Thurs

garding the spread of wsr propa

Louise Humphreys gave a brief talk
on the futility of war, revlowlng
past wars and their demoralising

To Travel Study Club
Mrs, Glen Fnbrlck was guest speak
er at the meeting Monday afternoon
of the Travel Study club whose hos
tess was Mrs E. Iverson. Mrs. Fab
rick has recently 'returned from an
extensive trip through the Islands
of the Pacific and Orient.
She presented a genuinely Interest
ing account of her experiences, and
described the beauty of scenery and
climate as well as the unsual bird
and animal life characteristic of the
Islands,
Many places of special Interest were
vlsted by Mrs. Fabilck, who brought
back souvenirs typical or native han
diwork and expressive of the charac
ter and customs of the pople.

tertained royally Friday evening when
the Jackson School P.-T, A. arranged
a turkey dinner In their honor at the
school.
Principal speaker for the evening
waa C. R. Bowman, superintendent
of county schools, who discussed the
modern teacher. Principal H. W.
Qustln Introduced the teachers, and
Mrs. Allen Smith, president of the
P.-T. A., welcomed the guests and

Nine children from the school glee
club presented several songs, accom

answer to that question, which has
kept members guessing an entire year
was revealed at the January meeting
of the Past Noble Grand club of
Olive Rebekah lodge when thirty
eight members assembled at the
home of Mrs Ethel Pease recently.
Joint hostesses with Mrs. Pease were
Marjorle Pearson and Lottie Howard.
After the opening exercises and
regular order of business, the instal
lation committee took charge of the
meeting and Installing Officer Ethel
Humphrey conducted the test re
quired by the committee.
New offlcera installed were: Lottie
Howard, president; Ella Gould, vice
president; and Daisy Douglas, secretary-treasurer,
replacing out-going
officers. President Marjorle Pearson,
Vice-President Lottie Howard and

Completes Work
Mrs. Oscar Gibaon was hostess to
the South Methodist Missionary soci
ety at her home Tuesday afternoon,
at which time reports were presented
showing that the previous quarter's
work had been brought up in full
which completed the calendar years
program.
Plana for Bible study course and
the present quarter's conference bud
get were made. "Jesus' Use of Scrip
ture", by Sprinkle, will be the basis
of this quarter's Bible study. The
budget will be raised by voluntary
offerings as last year. Two new mem
bers were added to the roll.

ing article on the life and labors of
Kagawa; eJso, the new auxiliary paper
containing Items of missionary and
local news was presented.
Installation of officers was post
poned until the next meeting.

Auxiliary
The first meeting of the year will
be held Monday night In the room
back of the Baldwin Piano Shoppe.
Initiation will be held and all new
members should be there. All chair
men are requested to come and bring
their notebooks ready to give reports

o'clock as there is a large amount of

First meeting of the new year saw
the planning of several future event
by the Junior High P. T. A. Friday
afternoon at the school house, p. a.
Menegat, principal, addressed the
members on problem confronting
pupils of Junior high school age, dis
cussing various phases of this Impor
tant period of the child's life.
Several pupils from the glee club,
under the direction of Mrs. Stephen
Nye, aang for the assembly. Plans
were made for Founders' Day, set for
February 14, and Mrs. Jack Horner
was appointed chairman for the
event.
Also being planned by the organi
zation Is a benefit card party for
next Saturday afternoon at ths
school gymnasium. This day was
selected so that Interested towns
people could see the decorations done
by the students for the dance the
preceding evening. AJ1 games will be
in play. Reservations may be made
by calling Mesdames Stanley Jones,
