SELL GRAHAMS -IN
MEDFORD DISTRICT
Tha smartly styled 163S lln of
Qrshsm automebllM will be handled
In the MedJord area by Pennington's
Battery service, according to an an
nouncement yesterday by Larry Pen
nington, head of the firm. A carload
of the new cars, sensations at auto
mobile shows throughout the country
this fall, has Just been received In
Medford and the Initial public show
ing will be featured by Pennlngtoni
beginning today. Included In the
shipment la the. widely-heralded "Su
percharger" Graham which brings the
Supercharger to the lower priced field
for the first time.
t- .nmminHnv nn the sunercharger
on the new Grahams. Larry Penning
ton said: . "This Is undouoteaiy me
most Important contribution of the
year to the 1'urther development of
the autonvl lie.
"Engineers have recognized for
years that the greatest problem con
fronting them was that of Increasing
the power and at the same time re
ducing the weight of automobile en
gines. ,"The Supercharger definitely an
swers this problem. It automatically
mixes the charge of raw gasoline with
compressed air before It reaches the
cylinders, resulting In an explosion
so powerful that six cylinders accom
plish the work of eight. Naturally
there Is a corresponding saving In
fuel.
"So far reaching Is this develop
ment and so obvious are Its benefits
that there is no question about the
rapid obsolescence of motors in
which weight and horsepower are un
duly out of proportion.
"In fact the efficiency of this new
slx-eyllnder engine corresponding to
eight-cylinder performance, haa al
ready resulted In the elimination of
the heavy eight-cylinder model from
our line. It was this eight In which
we Introduced the supercharger two
years ago.
"It la Inevitable that thla same In
fluence will penetrate the entire In
dustry. The day of cari overburdened
with needless cylinders Is at an end.
Wasteful engine weight end excessive
fuel consumption can no longer sur
vive with the advent of the super
charger. "The aviation Industry presents
emphatic confirmation of this asser
tion. It haa progressed phenomenally
slnoe the supercharger was Introduc
ed to aviation engines. The same Is
true of speedboats and racing cars.
All have flashed brilliant new per
formance records under the spur of
the supercharger. Every record. In
fact on land, on water and In the
air la held by the supercharger."
Pennington's Battery Service and Ga
rage haa been established in this city
for nearly 14 years. Mr. Pennington
opened a small shop on Front Btroot
In the spring of 1833 and a year later
his expanding business necessitated
i.n mmrters In the Barnum build
ing. Six years later, Larry Penning
ton moved to his present fine quar
ters on North Bartlett street with a
.mm nxcefvlinB 10.000 sauare
feet. Complete automotive service la
featured and a complete lsiano gau
llne pump unit la a part of the well
ennlnneri rjlant.
Larry Pennington haa been active

LAKE '0 WOODS ROADS
WILL DE OPENED FOR
CHRISTMAS VISITORS
TEMPORARILY DANGEROUS
No doubt scientist! and traffic
officials and road builders will eventu
ally figure out ways to eliminate a
large proportion of automobile acci
dents and deaths
But that day may come too late for
you.
Unless safety efforts begin to pro
duce results, there'll probably be
around a million automobile injuries
and 36,000 automobile deaths a year
in America for some time to come.
Education of drivers and traffic
regulations and improved street light
ing and better law enforcement can no
doubt cut these figures down two
thirds some time.
But you may not be here to enjoy
this increased saiety.
In the meantime, Vou've jot to take
care of yourself and family. You'd
better be your own safety expert.
The first things the experts do is to
study figures. They look for the danga
spots and the danger hours, and give
particular attention to such spots and
hours.
Vou should drive always like a per
son on a street marked "TEMPO
RARILY DANGEROUS." Most
streets and roads will some day be two
thirds safer than they are now. In thi
meantime, proceed with caution, as sta
tistics on automobileaccidentsgathered
by The Travelers Insurance Company
show many deaths and injuries occui
