Last night a group of high school
Sophomores, under Coach BUI Bower
man and Coach Ed Kir t ley, ran up to
Central Point and scrimmaged against
the Central Point high school In a
regular game, to give the Sophomores
experience. This seems to us to be a
splendid Idea. The basketball pros
prcts In the Senior high school aren't
too promising this year, and If the
Hophomores are neglected, won't be
for years to come.

Sophomores forward as rapidly as
possible, using an all-Soph team
alternately with his other In ev
ery game that he possibly can.

will have strong reserves coming

Medford this year. Rowernuin said

over saw in basketball that we could
reconnlze as a play, consistently.

basketball career (which lasted nine
days) we were cut from the squad
before Coach Merrll Hagen had got
around to explaining the system.
Up until that time we were under
a vague sort of Impression that bas
ketball was a game between two
squads, the one being the most adept
at koep-away winning the game. Thla
Impression we firmly clung to dur
ing that nine days, which may ac
count for the fact that we were oust
ed with little ceremony at the end.
We resented Hagcn'a short-sighted
ness in giving us the gate for some
time afterwards, but gradually came
atound to the point where we won-

Southern Oregon basketball en
thusiasts who have felt that the
season ha got away to a slow start
this yesr may have their fill of the
game tonight, with no less than
three contests scheduled for the
evening at the Ashland Junior high
school gym.
The main event of the evening
will be & game between the south
ern Oregon coaches and the SONS
varsity, expected to be an exciting
tilt. Jean Eberhart, SONS mentor,
Don Faber, Ashland high school
coach. Earl Rogers. Ashland Junior
high coach, Bill Bowerman of the
Medford high, . Russ Achlson of the
Medford Junior high, and Bill Eber
hart of Ashland, brother of Jean

Western Pine association announced
today that 113 mills reported new
business for the week ending De
cember 14 was 80 per cent greater
than the three-year weekly average
for December.
The 51,133,000 feet represented a
17 percent Increase over new busi
ness of the week before.
Shipments were 41.793.000 feet and
production 45,794.000 feet. The same
mllla for the corresponding week a
year ago showed orders 40,159,000 feet
and production 33,433,000 foot.
So for this year orders are 38 per
cent above the corresponding period
of lest year.

life conference to meet here February
