Tangle With Wolfe In
Middle Match Mobley
And Peck Open Program
It will be slug and kick At the
Armory tonight, and the devil tnko
the hindmost, when two bitter
grudge leuda and a Jlu Jlteu wrost
ling match take the center of Inter
est In what has been heralded as the
most exciting wrestling card In
months.
Id the main event, the long antici
pated clash between Ken Holila, the
Oklahoma fire eater who several
weeks ago was the recipient of a
charming ehower of blackjacks, at
which the police were hosts, settles
his differences with Bob Kennaston,
Gold Hill Marine who doesn't like
Hollls.
As a matter of fact, no one appar
ently likes Hollls, but Kennaston has
a particular grievance against him
because the Oklnhoman slugged the
Marine from behind as a climax to
the Hollls-Wolfe match, which Ken
naston refereed.
Kenna'lon Threatens
After that match, Kennaston of
fered to wrestle Hollls wlnner-take-All,
or for money or chalk. Just for
a ohance to show Hollls how a real
rough and tumble fight was conduct
ed. "I can hold my own with any
man who ever lived In a rough and
tumble fight". Kennaston said, and
originally demandod that the bout
be without the benefit of a third
man In the ring, a concession the
boxing commission was not willing to
make. Hollls seemed completely un
interested In how the fight was ar
ranged, and Implied that he'd hand
Kennsaton the pasting of hid career
regardless of what rules werea laid
down. In past matches he has Ig
nored rules completely anyway, so
this detail was given little signifi
cance here today.
In the middle event "Killer" Shl
kuma. large Nipponese Jlu Jltsu ex
pert, will meet Lee Wolfe In the first
Jlu Jltsu bout ever held In the city.
A fair cateh-as-oatch-csn grappler,
Shikuma la rated the best Jlu artist
ever to wreatle outside of his native
country, and Is the only black-belt
holder ever to appear In the United
States,
May See More Jlu
How the fans will react to Jlu Jltsu
Is atlll a matter of conjecture, Pro
moter Mack Llllard stated today, ad
ding that If the type finds popular
favor there will be more such
mntches In the future. In Jlu Jltsu.
the defeated man has to either be
unconscious or must slap the mat In
token of defeat, or the match goes
on. Pinning of shoulders means
nothing In the sport.
Opening the festivities will be the
return bout of Bex Mobley and
Frankle Peck, the two who put on a
furious bBttle last week which final
ly went to Peck. Mobley took the
first fall and was apparently well on
his way to the second. Mobloy Is
under the Impression that Peck won
on a fluke. Llllard stated, and the
two have been matched again.
Although ticket sales are brisk,
(there has been no raise In prices),
Llllard said today that there were
atlll scats nvnllablo for the mfitch.
which may be a sell-out before the
opening gong at 8:30.

who will vent hit wrath upon llob
Kennaston of' Gold HID at the
Armory tonight. Kennaston Is con

took round-house clouts at the

In a Hollls-Wolfe slaughter.
BOWLING
i
Medford see ma due to be the cen
ter of a vast amount of independent
dent basketball this years. Moat of
the CCC companies of the district
will boast teams, the National Ouard
la planning on organizing a squadron
of punkln heavers, the St. Mary's
All-Stars will again prowl the boards,
and several of the churches, Includ
ing the Christian and Methodist,
have signified Intention of having
clubs.
All of which Is very fine.
Basketball equipment Is com
paratlvely cheap, a good ball,
gym suits and an old barrel hoop
being about all that Is necessary
In the way of accoutrements. At
least 10 men can get their exer
cise on each squad. Inter-club
games supply diversion, and a
few of the better ones can make
seasonal expenses (If they're
lucky), by playing preliminary -games
or In their own tournament-
Here's a suggestion. Why wouldn't
It be feasible to organize all these
unorganized squada into a round
robin league, the games to be free,
during the season. Then at the end
of the year let the four or six or
eight highest teams play a tourna
ment on a neutral floor for & small
admission price If necessary to cover
expenses. The players would enjoy
the season more than If they Just
picked up games as they went along,
and the public would have a much
better chance to compare the
strength of the squads.
An Independent (ilendale team
Is looking for a Medford encoun
ter, und wants to know who
here Is In the market. There's
their answer. There ore any
number of Independents out of
the city who would like to play
Medford games. The St. Mary's
All-Htars, by the way, have chal
lenged "any team In the state.'

AFTER LONG TREK
We overheard an Interesting con
versation today between Mack Lll
lard. wrestling promoter, and "Killer"
Shikuma, Japanese wrestler who has
been In this country only four
months. Said Llllard: "Well, how do
you feel?" Replied Shikuma: "Peel
swell." Llllard: "Are you going to
win tonight?" Shikuma,; '
"How do you like this part of the
country?"
"Did you have a good trip up from
Los Angeles?"
"Feel swell."
"How many men have you wrestled
since you've been In this country?"
"How long are you going to etay
here before going bock to Los An
geles?" "What's the matter with you, don't
you speak any English?"
"Feel swell" , t , after which lo
quaciousness, the "Killer" retired to
hla room, apparently disgusted with
the talkative west.
With Christmas rapidly approach
ing, and grim demands of presents
and cards staring us In the face,
we've finally had a stroke of genius
and solved the card problem, in one
fell swoop. Dasning off a badly
spelled but gloriously sentimental
ode to all our friends, we Inveigled
one of the linotype operators to set
It in type, dashing off several hun
dred proofs.
Now all those who feel that we owe
