In "The Acid Test," Isabell Black
and Irene Stedman play the parts
of two women who put their per
fect friendship to a dangerous test
which brings the play to a tense
and hilarious close.

cure his chosen lady's "yes" should
surely see "Paste Pearls," which
shows how a slender. Imaginative
young man resorts to strategy to
woo and win a young lady who
prefers big, strong men. The char
acters are played by Dorothy Davis,
George Hnrdisty, and Benjamin
Swisher.
"The Stepmother,' a farce by Arn
old Bennett, is the story of a noted
authoress, Mrs. Piout, whoso latest
novel is severely criticised for its
lack of medical accuracy by an
anonymous article In a leading
magazine. In the struggle to dis
cover the author of the article, the
interests of Mrs, Prout, her beauti
ful secretary, her stepson, and her
doctor admirer become amusingly
Involved. The characters are por
trayed by Roma McReynolds as the
stepmother. Patricia Thompson, as
the secretary, James Newlln as the
doctor, and Benjamin Swisher as the

her niece Mrs. W. E. Kochenderfer.
of Redwood City, Calif. She visited
last summer and this summer at the
Lnmb home and will be remembered
by many who met her here. To know
her was to love her. She was a won
derful wife and mother and a friend
to all who knew her.
Miss Alice Ruttencutter organised
a girls' sewing club of the Reese Creek
school Dec. 7. They spent Saturday
afternoon sewing. Only a few were
present on account of the heavy
downpour of rain. Those present were
Miriam Commons, Beatrice Caster
and Jessie Beaulleu. They met at the
Lamb home.

daughter Carol, of Butte Falls, wero
doing their Christmas shopping In
Medford Deo. 4. On their return trip
they were overnight guests of Mr.
Smith's sister and her husband, Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Cowden, and also called
at the W.R.Lamb home, being an old
time frieno of Mr. Lamb. Mr. Smith
Is In the forest lookout service and Is
stationed during the summer on

The plates would bear the name of
the department under which the au
tomobile operated, and would be dif

plates. The cost was estimated at $3

Pomona Orange will meet ae
Eagle Point Grange hall Saturday,
Decemuer 14 at 8;00 p. m. This
will be the last meeting of the
contest of subordinate Grange mem
bership attendance and the prlsee
will be awarded. (
All subordinate Grangers are
earnestly urged to attend these Po
mona meetings, for we feel very
sure that regular Pomona attend
ance will mean greater Inspiration
for Grange work, better under
standing of Grsnge objectives, and
a greater real Ira t Ion of greater co
operation of the many Grange
units; that these objectives may
become a resllty. Education la the
keynote of the Orange success and
no opportunity should be lost to
get a better understanding of
Grange work.
The executive committee Is meet
ing on Wednesday night previous
to this meeting, with planning of
work for the coming year snd ar
ranging of future contests.
Installation
The Installation of the largest
number of subordinate Grange of
ficers in any single installation
ceremony ever held In Jackson
county was held at Central point
Grange hall on the afternoon of
Dee. 8, where 147 officers were In
stalled out of the 168. Practically
every absence was on account of
Illness.
This group crowded the hall W
capacity In the first march, al
though the seating capacity offered
room for msny more than attended.
About 350 Grangers wers present.
I. is evident thst some chsnge of
detail will hsve to be made for
future Installations.
And so a new year begins tn
Grange work, and Judging from the
talks given by the new masters
great activity Is expected during the
coming yesr. This earnest. Intelli
gent, optimistic group of Grange
leaders will no doubt, make the
influence of the Grange felt far and
near.
