Dramatic Screen Sensation "Mutiny on the Bounty" Opens at the Craterian Thursday
Consolidation of the Home Tele
phone cd Telegraph company of
southern Oregon, which operate

and Gold Kill, with the Pacific Tele
phone and Telegraph company has
been granted In an order iiwucd by
Knink C. MrCulloch, state public
utilities ccmmtMloner.
The Pacific Telephone and Tele
graph company ha owned a ma
jority of the stock of the Home
com pa ny for many yea rs and rc
cently obtained 100 per cent owner
ship when approval- was given by
the state utilities commissioner to
acquire 80 shares which were out
standing as of October 31, 1939.
Formal request for permission to
consolidate the two companies was
made by E. D. Wise who la . vice
president and gnneral manager for
the Pacific company In Oregon. ft.
B. Hammond of Medford Is manager
for the Home company.
In tn request. Wise pointed out
thnt the Pacific company for many
years has been jtiiwrvisinii '-
rations of the Home company,
though the latter company has not
actually been a part of the Oregon
area organization of the Pnclftc
company.
The corporate name of the Home
company will be dropped and the
company will become officially a
part of the Pacific Telephone and
Telegraph company, which In turn
la a part of the nation-wide Bell
system.
No change In the personnel of
the Home company Is contemplated,
according to Mr. Hammond, who
will continue as manager.
The Home company has 25 em
ployees and as of September 30, 1038.

ing? 205 fnnnVr line telephones, or
this total 3135 were served by the
Medford exchange, 118 by the Jack
sonville exehnnne and 61 by the
Gold Hill exchanfie.

The city council Is to adopt an

ford firemen are to be placed on a
civil service status.
The city election will coincide with
the state poll on the sales tax so
that It will not cost Medford any
thing additional save for the Inci
dental expense of preparing ballots.
The recent special session of the
legislature pAssed a law requiring all
cities of 6.000 or more population to

men under civil service.
Mayor George W. Porter yesterday
told the Mall Tribune he was In favor
of applying civil service requirement
to the city firemen.
