ESTES AND HOLLIS
ITCH IS FEATUF
OF MAT FESTIVAL
The m!tdl bout on the threa-star
eard at the Armory stole the show
last night, when Toota Estes and Ken
Hollla eclipsed the main event and
the curtain reiser wltn an exniDiuon
r fireworks that left the crowd gap
ing and Estes Tlctor by the referee's
derision.
The match started clean and fast
with a whirl of arms and lega that
promlwd a bout of pure apeea ana
alclll. Barely two minutes after the
tare of the melee, Hollla found him
self unable to refrain from dirty work
and clipped Kates a resounding amaca
n the law. This the Hawaiian
brushed aside and the match went
on until Hollla again found a chance
tn slucr.
At the tenth or twelfth attempt at
dirtiness Estes became angry, the first
time ha had done so In a Memoro
ring, and the party started. Hollls
outweighed Estes slightly, and easily
had the edge In the foul work, mil.
the cst-llke quickness of the Island
champ was almost too much for him
In the first round.
Near the end of the first frame, un.
der the Australian system of six 10-
minute rounds, Estes waa alugglng
aa heartily as waa Hollla. with some
thing of the edge on his opponent
when the gong ended the round.
In the next canto, Hollla took the
fall with three terrlflo body slams
and press after he had kicked,
choked and gouged Estes Into near
Insensibility. The round was nearly
even until Hollls managed to get Es
tea groggy with an elbow Jab on the
Jaw.
In the third round, while the two
were lashing about on the floor and
Hollls was enthusiastically choking
Estes, Referee May Friable walked
Into a flying foot and waa oold on
tbe canvas for over three minutes
while the two combatants roared
through as exciting a match aa the
crowd could stand. Judging by the
howls they sent up. Estes threw Hol
lls over In a body slam and received
a terrific kick In the abdomen for
his trouble, catapulting him under
the ropes onto the floor.
Thoroughly enraged, and with Fria
ble lying unconscious on the floor, he
came sailing over the top rope with
his famoua flying scissors and knock
ad hie mean playmate flat, then rlco
eheted off the fnr ropo and, tearing
back, nearly tore Hollls' head off with
, drop-kick. It waa a simple matter
to spply a body presa, which he did
until Frlnbto came to and awarded
him the round.
Sensing that he was getting the

worst of hla own medicine, Hollla
came back wildly In the fourth round
and tried to batter Estes to death.
He was doing a fair Job of It when
Friable awarded the match to Bates
on a foul when Hollls refused to re
frain from kicking the En tea chops.
In the last bout on the card. Lea
Wolfe's boa constrictor lega had a
terrlflo struggle In subduing Rex
Mobely of Alabama. Mobely took the
first fall with a hammertoe k which
forced Wolfe to pat the mat. and the
twin ted arm waa a source of trouble
to the tall Texan the rest of the,
evening. In the second frame, Wolfe
managed to apply a Boston crab with
such vigor that Mobely waa shaky the
rest of the evening, the middle canto
going to Wolfe.
Keeping his aeml -paralyzed arm
out of Mobely'a clutches In the laat
fsll, Wolfe finally took the match
with hla famous rolling scissors,
turning Mobely on his back for the
count. Mobely escaped from Wolfe'a
punishing head aclsaora three time
in a row by the simple expedient of
using his own head as a wedge with
which to pry Wolfe's lega apart, run
ning hla skull along the canvas like
a enowplow.
In a rough-and-tumble opener.
Prank le Peck, Ban Franclaco water

hearty body alama after Sooa had
taken the irnt fall with a knee kick
to Peck's groin. Angered, Peck came
back In the middle round and wal
loped most of the dnat out of the
Armory carpet by slamming Sooa
down on the mat time and again, to
finally take the fall with a body
press.
The Inst fall went the snme way.
only It didn't take so long, aa Peck
started slapping the sailcloth with
Soos from the opening gong. He took
the fall and the match in a few sec
